Good customer of mine swapped his 992 Carrera 4S for a Targa 4S and says on the back roads you can really, really feel the weight difference, far from subtle.

Just for me that if you want the engagement of a manual gearbox you're probably the kind of driver who will notice an extra 150kg.

I think a Targa is a great shout and the original spec listed above would be a very desirable , multi use, 911 variant.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Now apart from thinking it looks lovely, does anyone know anything about this generation targa?
Is this one too expensive? Anyone add anything?
Porsche Newport have been offering this one about, a friend looked at it last week but said it wasn’t for them.

That doesn’t seem anywhere near as nice for some reason.

It’s a lovely spec and I know that Targa’s have been holding their money, a friend sold his 1 year old car for pretty much what he paid last year, but this looks strong money to me. I’m a manual fan, but not sure it’s the box of choice for most Targa owners. While I’m not wedded to OPC’s, it looks a premium price for a car outside the dealer network. Just my observations.

It’s the interior spec/options and exterior colour which is doing it. I think it’s circa £10k strong or so

Although it wouldn’t be my choice, there’s a lot to like, and can see the appeal.
And, in a world of autos, the relative rarity of the Manual gearbox should make it increasingly desirable.
I’ve actually thought of moving from a 992s to a manual targa. At first glance this example may seem expensive but in decent colour combo targa manuals are rare, hence the price. You can buy a 992 turbo for similar money but I think this is just “more 911”
Frankychops said:
if anyone knows of another manual Targa with that interior, please shout! I think he'd consider an auto, must haves are that interior though
That interior is exceptionally rare, be amazed if he isn't in for a very very long wait.

its a shame about the exterior on the first example, looks like a terrible colour choice? The car at Joe Macari looks pretty, it it had the right interior I think that'd fly!
this is nearly there, just far too punchy for a private sale

I have to say of all the 911 variants the one that is least driver focused is the Targa….heavy car with lots of weight in the wrong place which is why I assume they only make them in 4wd (add some weight at the front to counter act the increased weight at the back). That’s my theory anyway.
They are without doubt a great looking car…but for me it’s the car I’d be least worried about having a manual in.

I do love the look of a 991 or 992 Targa but…it seems to me they don’t remain with owners for very long and get churned on a regular and frequent basis.
I can’t speak from experience as I’ve never driven or owned one, I do own a manual 993 Targa which I really enjoy and have taken it on big trips across Europe so I sort of assume that I’ll eventually migrate to a more modern Targa but for now I have this hesitation as I think owners perhaps are soon disappointed with the reality of living with a modern Targa?
That TWG car in colour and spec is nice though…

I’m pretty sure the targa has a more rigid body than the coupe? All the reviews are positive, given how far on they are past useable road pace, it’s not an issue. The targa is the best looking and has a bit of theatre about it, manual just add I guess.

I'm sure they're a lovely drive but I think back to back with a 2wd coupe you'd know which feels more like a sports car going down a country road. Just for me that if you want the engagement of a manual gearbox you're probably the kind of driver who will notice an extra 150kg.

I suspect at plausible road speeds (even +25%) and the majority of non-professional drivers would ever tell the difference IRL.
I had a 977 Targ, and correct, it is not a GT3, but as a road car, suited the usec ase, great.
OP. I think a Targa is a great shout and the original spec listed above would be a very desirable , multi use, 911 variant.
The one major advantage of a targa for me is that you get an opening rear
hatch. Trying to squeeze stuff past the front seats was a real pita in a coupe.

In the 996 / 7 - Yes !
100% useful
Hatch allowed for shopping, golf clubs and more access.

Have they stopped that now in the newer models? I'm too poor to even look at them and I lost PH points by not really liking my 996t.

I’ve owned both. 992S Coupe and 992 Targa 4S. Was expecting the Targa to feel heavy and notice the all wheel drive. It is RWD nearly all of the time and I personally can’t feel any additional weight.
Not dawdling when I’m driving either!

Exactly... the weight argument for pub bores and / or those that need to create differentiation across the model range.
IRL, its irrelevant.

The first one is isn’t an ‘s’, which means circa 70bhp down plus proper diffs etc?
Second is nice, just too expensive.

I like the Targa, not for me but each to their own and they cope very well with the challenge they present Porsche engineers. The 992 Targa is the best looking 911 in my opinion and that would be my reason for buying one, but I’d accept the compromise and stick it to the pub bores. However there’s no way the coupe, Targa and convertible handle the same, regardless of how quickly you’re going, sorry.

Weight saving is definitely not irrelevant .

Didn’t Porsche say the targa body was stiffer than the coupe? For me, Id not be buying the last 10th on a racetrack, I want something to make me smile that you can get close to using more of its potential.
No. The Coupe has the stiffest and lightest shell.
The Targa is stiffer than the Cab.
Structural rigidity is measured in Nm/Degrees, but Porsche don’t routinely quote these figures, other than highlighting the improvements when new models are launched.

I wonder if the rigidity of a 992 targa is greater than a 991 or 997 Coupe ?
That first car looked stunning, perfect in fact. Aventurine green targa with the Heritage interior and a manual.
How much was it btw?
I disagree about not feeling the Targa weight, it is 110kg heavier and definitely noticeable.
Good customer of mine swapped his 992 Carrera 4S for a Targa 4S and says on the back roads you can really, really feel the weight difference, far from subtle.
He did say that after a few weeks though he has sort of forgotten about it.
I guess if you lived with a coupe for 3 years as your daily and then swap you will notice, but soon forgotten and enjoyable in a different way, and those looks are worth it!!

If they are still looking and still ok with PDK then I would say this is even nicer than the one he missed out on. PTS British Racing Green and 'that interior'
