Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi all. Strange one here (I think) so after thoughts from others. I have Bilstein b16 ’s fitted, and when I life both front wheels off the ground, I can feel very slight play when rocking the wheel at 12/6. This is the same both sides. If I put one wheel on the floor the pay goes away. Makes me think the swap bar is putting a bit of pressure on the strut and effecting it. The car has new control arms, bearings, top mounts and drop links. When looking from underneath there is no play in any of them from what I can see. Sooo! I can Bilstein and explained my issues. The guy there said it was actually normal and a bit of play is expected when the suspension is fully handing due to how the intervals of the monotube construction of the damper. What are people thoughts on this? Am I being told right or fobbed off? Cheers

POST 2Original post

Did you have it realigned after all those part replacements? How the suspension behaves suspended in air is completely different than when the car is on all four and sitting in its stance. I think the guy is telling you straight. I'd put an 850 spider on the lift and you'd swear it was in disrepair looking at the positive camber of the rear wheels which was normal on all of them. How does the car feel on the road? I don't think Bilstein would lie to you, we used their products 46 years and I found them to be high quailty, I think the guy would have helped you out if he thought it was a product flaw. IIRC, the 12/6 play can also manifest if the wheel bearing is worn.

POST 3Original post

Hi, thanks for the reply. The call drives and handles great. Had a 4 wheel alignment after new parts were installed. The wheel bearings and brand new. So they’re not the reason for the slight movement. Thanks for the reassurance that Bilstein and a good honest company. Take care.
