Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know "What does hot smell like?" The car is an '06 C4 with 24K miles. I just purchased it and started using it. I am a bit surprised that the car has a "something is hot" smell after even a ten minute trip around my neighborhood speeds under 40. Yo now what I mean by a hot smell. Something is at a high temp and off gassing. Maybe brake pads, clutch, oil on a header, slight smell. I went around and touched all of the rotors so it's not a dragging pad and there is no evidence of oil. I have always had older 911's and this was the norm, oil return tubes over heat exchangers pretty much guaranteed this. But I didn't expect a modern water cooled one to have this? What should I check or are they just trying to keep the nostalgia thing going by doing this on purpose, or it was an option that was purchased "controlled oil leak onto header for race smell).

POST 2Original post

The cats get really hot. Might look around them to see if there is anything touching them.

POST 4Original post

Mufflers, they live right behind the rear tires. Also normal to smell hot rubber from cooked tire “dust”

POST 6Original post

Keep your eyes out for exhaust products from a new vendor we are working on adding right now, Soul Performance, their side muffler bypass pipes save a bunch of weight and help solve engine bay and rear tire heat management issues.

POST 7Original post

There was a recall on the fluid reserviors, and it's possible that you have some coolant leaking

POST 8Original post

The cap on the overflow reservoir is also something worth examining

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok thank you. I will check those out.

POST 10Original post

If you smell antifreeze steam; Cap # should end in 04 Tanks can split in the back where it can’t be seen. Look on the “frame”, engine side, under the tank for stains stains, also left exhaust tip.
