Had something similar years ago but was handbrake shoes and soon as you put handbrake on it stopped so adjusted hand brake and was fine. Handbrake works fine and makes no difference so it’s defiantly pad / disc related

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Afternoon, I have fitted new rear discs and mintex pads, now soon as I do around 80mph can hear a really high pitch squeal from inside the car, soon as I touch the brake pedal it goes then comes back after a few seconds, low speed not really an issue. I popped the pads out today and where very smooth and felt glazed, I roughed them up a bit with some emery cloth and popped them back in, was fine for half a day now it’s back again, Any ideas? Had something similar years ago but was handbrake shoes and soon as you put handbrake on it stopped so adjusted hand brake and was fine. Handbrake works fine and makes no difference so it’s defiantly pad / disc related

POST 2Original post

It might be that 1 or more calliper pistons are sticking so they’re not backing off pressure when you take your foot off the pedal If you Jack the car up and press and release the brakes check if any of the wheels are dragging badly They’ll also get warm or hot too so a infra red thermometer is good , aim it through the wheels at the disc

Did you get this sorted in the end?mine are doing the same and it’s driving me nuts

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I did, I bought new brake backing pads/discs that went into the calipers, also taken off the discs and re adjusted the handbrake I think something inside was catching ever so slightly. Seems spot on now though
