I checked / wiggled all of the other relays to ensure seated correctly.
Leading evidence: 'Check / wiggled all of the other relays' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check / wiggled all of the other relays' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. The fan appears to spin without issue and I have disconnected / reconnected it.

As a side note, I see you have fitted Cruise control

I’ve always thought it was odd that the engine seemed warm when stopping the vehicle, but the rear fan didn’t run (I’ve had the car around 8 months but hardly used it due to travel)

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Morning all. I’ve noticed over the weekend that the rear deck fan on my C4 996.2 doesn’t appear to be working.
The temp over the weekend was up to 22C and the car went up to around 90c on the temp gauge, but the rear fan didn’t switch on.

The car had a major service and the fault codes were all read recently and nothing was mentioned about the rear deck fan?
Is there anything that a novice could check or test?
Thank you
I had this on my 996.2 along with a dash warning error. The control relay is situated under the carpet on the parcel shelf. I found the relay had fallen out of its base and was just loose on the bulkhead - plugged it back into the empty slot and all worked fine. I checked / wiggled all of the other relays to ensure seated correctly.
I have only ever head mine come on a few times and did a bit of a google on it a while ago. I came up with the following info.
"Switch-on conditions for engine compartment fan (this fan pulls air into the engine compartment) The engine compartment fan is switched on when the engine compartment temperature is greater than 80 degrees C or the coolant temperature is greater than 100 degrees C.
After-running of engine compartment fan
If the ignition is switched off and the engine compartment temperature is more than 60 degrees C, the
DME
control module remains in readiness for another 20 minutes. During this time, the engine compartment temperature is retrieved every 10 seconds. If the engine compartment temperature is > 85 degrees C , the engine compartment fan is switched on for 20 seconds. If the engine compartment temperature is still > 85 degrees C after this time, the fan remains on for a further 30 seconds."
Thank you for the replies! I will check to see if I have a relay under the rear parcel shelf, I have a Cabriolet so I wonder if the positioning would be different.
The engine bay smelt hot when I turned the vehicle off, so it must have been way over 60C!
I’ve not seen the temp gauge above 80C before. Do they move around with spirited driving?
As a side note, I see you have fitted Cruise control
@Damo996
I’d love to know more about that, as I really miss it on my 996!!!
These cars run hot I esp if you don't have a low temp thermostat, I often see mine around 90 and oil temps around 110c on the road and higher on track.
Cruise control is a relative easy retro fit. if you not bad with screwdriver and spanner. if you google 996 retrofit Cruise control you should find the how to guide Hardest part is getting the programming down. I got mine done at OPC Hull when buying a new key.
Thank you Damo, maybe I’m not driving it enough to notice the higher temps?? That was the first warm weather drive we’ve had!
I do have the low temp thermostat fitted, it was one of the first jobs we did
I’ll have a google thank you! I just need to find a second hand unit for sale, they appear to be few and far between! In this modern era of speed cameras on every corner, I think it will be a decent investment!!
