I'm new to this forum but have read a lot of complaints about an intermittent 'fault' triggering the EML light and fault code related to misfire and random misfire. I'm posting because I share the same frustration having only owned my
Cayman S
987.1
2006 52k for a few weeks. But have found a work round which might help.
It's only a problem at completely cold start and not all the time. I've even had the car into service and replaced the plugs and coil pack on the offending pot 4 but no difference. I found that after letting the start up sequence count down it's normally 6 seconds, if the EML came on after cranking (normally goes off after about 10 seconds) if I then immediately take the key out and restart again it cured the fault. I've taken it one stage further in that I do the process twice without cranking the car car i.e key in to position one wait for the oil level countdown, take the key out again and repeat, the second time crank the engine and start and no EML. I think it might be something to do with the start up procedure and the ECU possibly mixing too much fuel so triggering the EML.
It never shows the fault even at being slightly warmed up.
This is only my experience but I've not been able to replicate the fault since using this method. The engine seems to clear any initial choking quickly which maybe the issue.
Hmmmm.... I wonder if this might have something to do with throttle angle verification... there are sensors on the throttle housing that measure the position of the throttle plate. These numbers are compared to the requested position, and if it doesn't match a correction is performed. I wonder if a sticky throttle plate might cause this issue, especially if it's only sticky when the engine is cold?
BTW - welcome to Planet-9, a Home for
