Suggestion

Though the AOS had just been done at 104k miles along with another oil change I thought that perhaps it was a bad one so I had a shop replace it and I"m still getting the same large amounts of smoke.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I know, I know...white smoke problem, but hear me out. I recently purchased a 2007 Cayman S w/ 105k miles and an extensive maintenance history. For the first couple of months, it didn't smoke, but then winter came and I didn't drive it as much, I would still start it from time to time and that's when I would get huge plums of white smoke. At 104k miles the car had the top end rebuilt, new head gaskets, the heads were machined and rebuilt, new AOS, and a leak-down test was performed with no scoring noted, the IMS was also in great condition. Though the AOS had just been done at 104k miles along with another oil change I thought that perhaps it was a bad one so I had a shop replace it and I"m still getting the same large amounts of smoke. There are no engine lights, the car drives great, there is some vacuum when I remove the oil cap and the car does stutter a little but nowhere near cutting out. If I drive the car for a couple of days, less smoke seems to mostly happen after it's been sitting for a few days. Let me know what your thoughts are.

POST 2Original post

Cold weather enhances the look of white smoke on all vehicles, smoke on startup is inherent to flat engine design. Did they leave the oil at least one bar under full? Does it smoke after being fully warmed? it's been completely checked, is it burning a lot of oil with few miles driven? If I were you I'd drive it and enjoy it, you have done your due diligence it passed and it runs right, keep your mind calm with that knowledge and go have fun. Trust me you'll know when the AOS quits, my 986 looked like I was treating mosquitoes.

POST 4Original post

If you blew the original AOS then there is likely residual oil still in your intake manifold. It will take some time to burn off.
