Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, Reinstalling my engine and transmission, and the piston popped out of the slave cylinder. How do I go about repairing this? The cylinder itself seems fine (at least before the job).

POST 2Original post

The piston did not come out, just the rod which can be placed back in and installed, if the piston had come out you would have oil coming out of the boot. I've always attached the slave when the engine and trans. is on its way up during the install and have enough room to install the slave, otherwise what a PIA to install blindly.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My mistake - the rod. However, if I push it back in, it just falls out again. Is there some sort of clip to hold it in that may be on the floor somewhere?

POST 4Original post

Yes they can be a real PIA, what make it easier to place the slave back in while the engine and trans is dropped down enough you can install the slave and rod with two hands. if you don't want to drop the engine lower, I would start a six pack of good beer and make sure no kids around you will be cussing a storm. I will never forget when the middle kid did his, he finally just dropped the engine enough to see what he was doing and installed, LOL he didn't want to listen to me at the start..

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I didnt know this rod is just supposed to come out, none of the DIYs tell you this. Im just worried this thing slips out while Im installing it and it gets lost in the bell housing somewhere.
