Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
the best and easiest option for you is to use the seat bases from your comfort/tombestone seats, and swap over the hard back sport seats completely, that way its all plug and play, and all the electrics including the memory module is retained in the seat base, and you will have the appearance of sport seats, but not with the higher seat base bolsters.
Leading evidence: 'Use seat bases' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use seat bases' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have black comfort seats with ruffled leather which I quite like to swap for the more supportive sport seats. I know the 996 sport seats are not electric and do not have memory.
Would the 997 sport seats with memory work with the 996 system? Can I get ruffled leather in black in the 997 sport seat style?
The reason for memory is because my wife is 5'2 and I'm 5'9 and we swap cars regularly and have programmed our mirrors and seat positions to our keys.
Thanks in advance.

note: do not attempt to take the seat back off the base unless you have a good understanding of them, as its very complex (not a bolt like you might think, there are springs/leavers, and cogs in there (AMHIK) lol,)
you just need to locate some matching coloured/wear sport seats with the heating elements
ps: sports seats are partial electric..
i have done this twice.
Thanks for the reply. I was looking for a simpler solution- hence the thought of a direct swap with the 997 seats if the memory function and electrical logics are the same ...
Thanks. Hence I wonder if the 997 seats module will be compatible if I swap the plugs over. Anyone knows the schematics and the signals are compatible?
I'm handy with electronics and wiring but less confident in taking the seat apart.
its just a guess, but i would say they would, at least mechanically as the floor pan is the same, also except for some slight variations, the loom is about 95% the same, as long as your talking about a late model 996, and not an early 3.4 (pre most.canbus etc) and early 997 seats, not from 2009 onwards
i think it would be doable.
nothing ventured nothing gained, worst case scenario is you would need to swap over the modules/wiring to your cars configuration, but if you have both sets (old seats and new 997 seats) its obviously possible, as the mechanicals, are the same.
seats from the 997
electrics/modules from your 996
at the worst.
best case: plug and play, with possible small wiring issues (earth/pins in the wrong place etc)
im surprised this has not been done before, only wiring i had to do on swap over number2 was the wiring for the electric seat back movement was the wrong way round (pins in the plug) from comfort to sports.
@medicus
sorry to revive such an old thread but I could not find any information on removing seat back off of the base on a 996. I am going to attempt to swapping the complete seat back from a comforts seat to a sport seat back. You did say AMHIK! Sooo and chance you can shed some light/photos/write up? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Admin. But what I am attempting to do is swap the complete seatback from a 996 comfort seat with a 996 sport seat. Needing the intricacies of doing so.
