My shocks are not in bad shape as far as I can sense (no idea when PO last replaced though), but since I have to replace the shockmounts, I may as well go for new shocks as well.

If you can do without the car for a little while, It would really help to get everything taken apart and checked before you start ordering parts ***** nilly.

One mistake I made was replacing my front wheel bearings when I really didn't need to (I don't think) - at least it was only $100 in parts and my time...Tire Rack stocks the Bilstein B8's (around $600).
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

'99 C4 - Bilstein B8's all around, with H&R Lowering springs. Tarrett camber plates in the front.
I haven't driven the car very much yet - about 140 mi. or so, but for what I've done I'm very happy. It feels so much more solid, and it no longer klunks over every bump in the road - the front top mounts were shot (the right side actually fell apart when I removed the top nut). The stock rear top mounts were fine. All suspension squeaks are gone!
All in including shipping:
Bilstein B8's (rears on special from ECS $237 ea) -$ 475.00
Fronts from Tire Rack $300 ea.- $ 600.00
H&R Lowering springs (slightly used - EBAY) $ 190.00
Tarrett Camber plates - $ $520.00
Total= $1785.00
Ouch! Thank god I did the work myself, it would have cost around 3 grand...Oh yeah, almost forgot...4 wheel alignment at Porsche of Southampton $447.00
And I didn't even get a cup of Latte with that (and no, they don't have a hot Barrista !!!)...That brings the grand total to $2285 Did I say OOOUUUUCHHHH!
I didn't have a choice, as Koni doesn't make a set for the C4...
(it's always nice to have options). That being said, aside from cost, I'm super happy with the "upgrade" - really solid/smooth/comfortable ride... I thought the Tarrett camber plates might be "harsh" but not at all - in fact much smoother than the failed(passenger side)/failing(drivers side) stock mounts I had before. The dropped look is also a big plus
I guess you didn't take advantage of the low euro exchange rate a few months ago where you could've scored Bilstein PSS10 CO's for around the same price.
It really doesn't matter though as long as you're happy with your new setup and it really doesn't amount to that much spread out over time if you plan on keeping your car awhile.
I don't really think camber plates are really required for everyone, especially on that setup and if sticking to a less aggressive alignment.
What is your camber set to btw?
If I don't make my fence line decision to go 991, over the next several months I have been considering doing the identical suspension upgrades. For what its worth to do all the new upgrades and maintenance on my 996... I am getting close to just getting into a 991 territory with my 996 trade... decisions, decisions.
Yeah, I actually got a price from Gert that was really good, but by the time I was able to do it, the exchange rate had reversed, so I was able to get them a little cheaper here (Tire Rack and ECS). Re: Camber plates... They're actually less expensive than the stock top mounts for the C4 - that's really why I got them - and I'm happy I did. The right side camber is a little out of spec. I think the best they could do was - 1.56 the left was in spec at - 1.24 (these are from memory so maybe not totally accurate) I think I need a bump steer kit to get them in spec. The rears were ok with the stock mounts (according to the readout). Here are a couple pics.

^That's great^ Too bad every time I've ever gone to your site to look for a part or get a price on something, I wind up leaving in frustration... Easily one of the worst user interfaces I've ever seen or tried to use. I appreciate the fact that you're kind enough to post the prices now, when they clearly do me no good.
I apologize for your frustration on site, there is a few things I don't like about it either that I wish my web guys would fix. What parts of it you don't like?
Shoot me an email next time you're looking for something and we can do it that way.

Hi Jason,
Thanks. I just ordered a window regulator from the site with two day shipping - I hope I get it quickly as my car is torn apart and laid up until I get it installed ! Great price with the Rennlist discount 👍 😃
I think my biggest comment is browsing. One can't browse the site, we can only search for a particular part. And if you do search, and then hit BACK, you lose your car and have to re-enter from the drop downs. Talk about painful.
Change the SEARCH functionality to a FILTER, where you show ALL parts for an applicable filter, and you're 80% there.
What browser are using? It should save your car when you hit back, I was having problems with that last year but should be fixed. I wish there was a way to search for a part description only, but the way the catalog was written doesn't allow that. There is way to search for a part after you input some info though. So on the dropdowns, select your make, then year, then model and you can then type in a part description in the Keyword box then hit enter. Hopefully that might help.

Chrome.
When I hit back, it saves "Porsche" but nothing else - but non of the drop downs are populated, so I have to re-select Porsche before starting over.
I'd rather not have to search, and just be shown all "Suspension" and then filter to "Sway bars".
I suspect my front top mounts are shot as well.
When you buy front Bilstein B8s, do you get front top mounts with them or do you have to buy these mounts separately?
If bought separately, how much are those?
Thanks folks!
Martin
"When you buy front Bilstein B8s, do you get front top mounts with them or do you have to buy these mounts separately?

No, you don't get them "with the struts"... You have to buy separately. The stock rubber insert Porsche mounts are around $300+/- ea. for a total of $600+/- a few dollars. The Tarrett camber plates I got were $520 shipped. ** I also looked at Elephant Racing Camber plates that were $550 + shipping, but earlier today I found that they also make rubber type top-mounts similar to the stock Porsche mounts but using a firmer rubber for $230/pair... Had I known at the time, I may have gone with them to save a few bucks... That being said, I'm very happy with the feel/performance of the Tarrett plates, and they were still less expensive than stock. Good nLuck
Thanks very much dporto and NYOutftr. This helps a great deal.
My shocks are not in bad shape as far as I can sense (no idea when PO last replaced though), but since I have to replace the shockmounts, I may as well go for new shocks as well.
Merci beaucoup!
It's funny you say ^this^, as I thought my shocks/struts were fine as well - the car still handled better than anything else I had driven, just a little squeaky/noisy... I was wrong! The difference in the overall feel is night and day - granted, I did go with the sport struts/shocks/springs, but I also realized the originals/stock setup was way past due for replacement!
Fully agree with both of you!
I would not go to the expense/effort to replace upper strut mounts without replacing the full strut on both sides/both ends.
Now trying to figure out what parts I need and where to get them.
From Canada, it is not a simple task to get the best deal given our weak dollar at this moment in time.
dporto, your 1st email certainly helped!
I went with all OEM Porsche except for front strut mounts, but they were quality stock replacement.
I purchased most all the parts from Suncoast or ECS.
I even ordered all new , dust boots, nuts and washers.
There are plastic coil spring plates, they come in different sizes (mm).
I could not find out which sizes I had in my car, so I purchased both OEM.
There was at least another item the same way, I still have sealed up in plastic bags.
I would give you a good deal on them if they would work for you.
My car is daily driver as well as autocross and soon, my first DE in May.
I did not know how "Streetable" the aftermarket parts were, so I played it safe.
Alignment specs were all put to stock after complete suspension was installed, again playing it safe.
I will probably alter the specs of alignment after I completely understand competitive alignment, right now I do not.
I can say with certainty you will not be sorry if you 1) go with B8 shocks, 2) replace all wearable parts, 3) go with a proven lowering coil spring.
Good Luck, and take your time!!!!
"If you can't do it right, you surely can't do it twice"
Hey, sorry I missed your post - I was out of town for a few days (15th - 18th) and then crazy busy when I got back...just saw it now. Anyway, yes it helps to have anything you need BEFORE you start the job. Unfortunately you don't REALLY know until you take everything apart. One mistake I made was replacing my front wheel bearings when I really didn't need to (I don't think) - at least it was only $100 in parts and my time...Tire Rack stocks the Bilstein B8's (around $600). I got a good deal from ECS on the rears (around $400). If you can do without the car for a little while, It would really help to get everything taken apart and checked before you start ordering parts ***** nilly.
Good Luck
Thanks again, dporto.
Unfortunately, I use it as a daily driver, so I can't afford too much down time. Hence my trying to figure out what to replace in 1 shot.
Question for you: Did you have to disassemble the front spring perches and transfer them to the B8s? I just got my B8s in the mail and can't fully understand why they don't have perches. The guy at FCP verified that these are definitely for a C4S and says he figures its a transfer of the perches.
Thanks and excellent ride!
