has any body upgraded there head light bulbs with great success. Mine are great on full beam but on low there pretty painful ( dull )

How's your headlight glass? It may be that the bulb's okay, but it cannot get through the glass very well. Get a headlamp restoration kit (£10?) and hopefully the light levels will improve a lot.
