Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Outcome without a verified action link

It worked perfect as it was wide enough to support the engine from tilting as well.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 2008 4S that has a coolant leak from the reservoir. I am ready to tackle the job this weekend (or next). I have watched several videos (mainly of 996s) and read through the phenomenal write-up on here. I do have one question. How far can the engine "drop" before it causes other issues? I believe I need to drop it about 2". I also believe that there are just a couple of fuel lines that need to be "popped" out of their respective holders. I have never dropped the engine in a Porsche, so I would be remiss if I didn't say I am fairly nervous about this. Thank you. Ian

POST 2Original post

Try this on for size, it is a bit of work, but nothing to be worried about : https://rennlist.com/forums/attachments/997-forum/1281618d1526760688-the-diy-guide-to-replacing-your-997-coolant-expansion-tank-997-diy-guide-replacing-the-coolant-tank.pdf

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you JFP! Great write-up. Any suggestions on how to get it on jackstands? If I used the jacking point on each side, where do I put the jackstands?

POST 4Original post

I would typically put the stands under the suspension uprights.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Job complete! I actually bought a low-profile motorcycle jack. It worked perfect as it was wide enough to support the engine from tilting as well. No jackstands needed.

POST 6Original post

Always a good idea to have some jackstands on hand for extra safety precaution
