Honestly, the 1M was an amazing car but it was not a true sportscar like the Cayman or Miata, but it was the best thing for me.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Looking for some insight, I currently own a 07 cayman s with 94k. I bought at 19600 from a Porsche dealer 2.5 years ago. In total, counting services, I’m in the vehicle around 22000. Reason I am saying all of this, I have found an 2003 911 targa. It has 98k on the clock and it looks like the first 12k were from Canada… price would be 28,000 pending negotiations. I love my cayman but since having a kid I can’t take my wife anywhere bc the baby. I can only take one! Car shows would be much more fun if we didn’t have to take 2 vehicles to them. Is the targa a good model or what would be my better trade? I love the exclusivity of the targa and the utility of the popping rear hatch. Are they worth the peculiarity though? 6 speed in midnight blue metallic / dark grey. Heated seats. (From what I can tell that’s the only “high dollar” item. I haven’t seen a good build sheet or photos. Going to dealership tomorrow to check her out. P.S. 6 speed in midnight blue metallic / dark grey. Heated seats. (From what I can tell that’s the only “high dollar” item. I haven’t seen a good build sheet or photos. Going to dealership tomorrow to check her out. P.S. if not this targa what would you get that’s is in or around the same price? Thanks in advance,

POST 2Original post

By all means, a 996 Targa is not a crazy idea. The key thing to figure out is what works for you FOR YOUR LIFE RIGHT NOW. Sometimes it is difficult to accept that our needs change as we get older, and our situations change. The 996’s tiny (and arguably less than useful] backseat may be absolutely perfect with the baby in tow right now. However, that likely won't be the case in just a few years. How much solo driving do you regularly do in your P-car, as opposed to family driving? With all my vehicles over the years, I’ve asked myself what each does for me at given points in my life. If you want to stay with P-cars, perhaps there’s a different model that might be a better long-term fit that’s not a 911 — like a 2010 Panamera? It’s really a personal decision. Put it this way. If someone offered me a 996 Targa in an even swap for my 987, I'd likely turn it down as the 9X6 series never really spoke to me. But that's just a personal choice. You’ll find what’s right for you (and your wife). Just tune out what everyone else thinks and the noise. Explore. See what speaks to you. If a Targa makes your heart race, and you can afford the change, then go for it. And I say this as a fan of both 98X and 99X cars. Drive the car that makes YOU happy when you drive it. (Just my two cents.)

POST 3Original post

I agree, get what makes you happy. I just bought a Cayman in 2022 and I would've liked on in 2011, but I had a 5 year old and a 9 year old so I bought a BMW 1M Coupe with a back seat. It carried my kids all over the place. It was the right decision based on the my stage in life. Honestly, the 1M was an amazing car but it was not a true sportscar like the Cayman or Miata, but it was the best thing for me. 10 years later I sold that 1M Coupe which paid almost entirely for my new Cayman. : ) So I guess I made the right choice after all. The only thing I want to warn you about is that the seats in the 911 meet the minimum designation for seats and if you are over 5'8" putting a car seat facing backwards for a baby will almost make it impossible for anyone else to sit in the front seat. So make sure before you compromise for a back seat, that you take a car seat and your wife and you try to make it all fit. I almost bought a BRZ in 2013, but I could not get my 11 year old daughter to fit in the back seat. So best of luck and try before you buy!!!
