I laughed and I cried and I love this video.
The Problem with Porsche
As a brand-new owner of a Porsche, I enjoyed this video and learned a lot from it too. Kinda karmic for me right now. Highly recommend.
I've been driving Porsches for more than 50 years and a club member most of that time. This is the best video on the subject of Porsche I've ever seen. Well worth the time and a must see for anyone wanting to know about Porsche.
Yes it’s a good video, but I’m with Jay Leno. To be honest, my reaction was to be mad at Porsche the company. The purposeful under supplying of cars, a la Ferrari, is something which is great for profits and horrible for car enthusiasts. Porsche is not quite Ferrari in how they do this, but they have moved in that direction.
The progression is simple. Not enough new cars to satisfy demand so prices go up. They go up for both new and used cars. Then people realize that prices can even climb over time. So cars become an investment. Cars with no miles or super low miles fetch the most. So lots of cars bought and never/hardly driven. And if you happen to be lucky enough to afford one, you can’t drive it without getting massive depreciation. So essentially these cars attract investors and very few real car enthusiasts can afford one.
Sorry to complain. I did like the video. And I do agree that Porsche has fantastic engineering. I think I’ll go out and drive mine today. 😀
Thanks for sharing. I’ve been in my first P-car for 1.5 years and wish I’d made the change (from BMW) sooner. Simply amazing machines (not perfect but very impressive).
I’ve met a lot of like-minder car enthusiasts and very few DBs (far less than in some other brands [emoji6]).
(So why did he feel the need to include a PT Loser in the video? [emoji2369] [emoji6] [emoji8])

I think the phrase he associated with the quick shot of that vehicle had to do with designers "who had been dropped on their heads."
He really makes some great videos, I recommend people watch his other stuff too!
That was excellent. The best part for me was Leno blasting Ferrari. Very funny.
Hey Matt - great vid! Systems engineering + continuous improvement = good cats. But it’s what this enables that really counts. It goes like this: wake up, wake up the car (it is always ready), drive to the track (any distance is possible), thrash the car around the track for a couple of days, buy some groceries on the way home, put them in the frunk, arrive home and get on with life. Sleep like the happiest baby while dreaming about the next trip to the track. The Porsche is in the garage doing the same thing.
Love your perspective on mileage and, for various cars I have owned, have long suffered under the ‘should I drive it or keep the miles low’ conundrum … so, I bought an Arctic Silver ‘09 BS with 43k miles. Runs and looks like new. Was $37k. Given it’s relatively low price range, i drive it whenever the heck I feel like it … and love every single mile!
