Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Reported cause
It was the 993 that deployed at 50mph and retracted at 20mph (ish).

Leading evidence: '993' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is '993' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust ) or even actuators fail (or need re-connecting)' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. I guess the fact there is a manual button you used to raise the spoiler before you set off or indeed accidentally pressed with your foot enroute  would be enough to get you off if an officer of the law pulled you.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So today I decided to tread on the motorway and oh, how easy is it to lose track of how fast you are going! I know I hit the 80s and 90s (naughty me!)...but no sign of the rear spoiler going up! It does work manually. Should it not have worked automatically too? Any obvious problems here?
I have a 1999 996 carrera cab btw.
Yet again, thanks for the all so informative replies to other posts of mine. Porsche should be paying you something as you are supporting their brand value by helping out like this!
Spoiler
Ive never seen my spoiler go up but cant see it in the mirror!-are you sure its not going up?Mind you ive had my 911 Targa for three months and only found the storage things in the doors yesterday.
Although aerodynamically they are designed by Porsche to rise at 75 mph, the spoiler should actually raise at 45 mph on UK models.
The reason is pretty obvious: no legal deployment in Blighty!
Are you are definitely sure it doesn't rise?
Get a small person to sit in the back and watch!
By the way, if you fiddle with the manual control you will overide the system until you remove the key from ignition AFAIK.
The system does a self check every time you turn the ignition on / start the engine. It checks the seated and deployed sensors, the mechanical actuators and speed sensors for null responses.
The spoiler red light (left hand side, below rev counter) MUST light up on ignition and then extinguish within a few tens of yards. It must not stay on or come on during driving. The 911 is not safe at speed (>75 mph) without aerodynamic aids.
Sometimes the microswitches fail (or need adjusting) or even actuators fail (or need re-connecting).
If the system is throwing no fault lights (after test) and it is malfunctioning that would be odd.
Okay - maybe a schoolboy error on my part - but I am thinking that the spoiler light should come on when the spoiler goes up? If that is not the case then I can't be sure if the spoiler did come up because I think its pretty much impossible for me to see from the drivers position. I'll have to ask one of my sons to look over their shoulder next time!
No - spoiler light doesn't come on when the spoiler comes up - it's only a warning light to tell you if it's not working.
I think a strategic stick-on mirror is in order
Once the spoiler has raised automatically it stays up until you drop your speed to about 38 mph,
so you could take a sneeky look in the reflection of a passing car to see if it's still up.
TB
I can see mine go up at 75mph (not 45) in the wing mirrors, but that;s bcos it's a big one I guess.
When I first got my 996 I made someone follow me to check it was working as I could not see it either - it worked perfectly so was a little paranoia on my part
I couldn't see it either and had my son check out the rear window, also found a handy shop window on a dual carriageway. More than likely it's working fine :thumb:
Yep!
Definitely no light to indicate deployment, the symbol is a fault lamp only.
Re: 45/75 mph question
I don't personally have a lifty spoiler, but I am fairly certain that the Cayman etc I have had for courtesy cars etc have exhibited the lower raising speed.
It still bothers me that it would raise at a speed above the National Speed limit? (ie a giveaway of illegal speed
)
It can certainly be programmed for any speed. Canadians have theirs move up at 50 mph and down at 19 mph.
:dont know:
Right, concerned for all you lifties, I checked the manual.
It states 120 kph (75 mph) up and 60 kph (37 mph) down.
I guess the fact there is a manual button you used to raise the spoiler before you set off or indeed accidentally pressed with your foot enroute  would be enough to get you off if an officer of the law pulled you.
Hey, let's be careful out there!
Hmmm - I can just see the top edge of mine in the rear view mirror, but only just and I guess it would depend on your height, seat position mirror position etc.
Does deploy as per 120/60 kph as advertised - so you can drop down to 40 mph, drive past plod with a grin whilst obeying the speed limit...
This has come up a few times. Yes, you definitely only get a light if there's an error.
I understand the UK is the same as Europe, with regards to trigger speeds (75mph for lift), but does seem odd given our speed limit.
As mentioned above you cannot see the spoiler out of the rear view mirror in the Targa, but if you sit right up, you should be able to make out the top of it in the coupe.
Cheers.
