Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Someone must have tried this before as I look at loads that have been scratched-either that or loads haven’t been repaired because it’s a nightmare to match!
Leading evidence: 'Repair because it’s a nightmare' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair because it’s a nightmare' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I’m relatively proficient in a bit of paint repair but I’m struggling to find out what may be a good paint match to the trim.
Repair would be better if not the perfect solution

I feel a chip repair would be better if not the perfect solution.

Then use black panel liner to fill in the GT3 writing, maybe 3 coats.

You can then rotate the box to contain all the spray within the cardboard box- you're only going to be using a small amount of spray paint anyway, but get a fan and open all doors/sunroof etc and get good ventilation going through the car.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I need to do a small refurb on my 996.2 GT3 handbrake, like a lot it has been chipped by jewellery in the past…
I’m relatively proficient in a bit of paint repair but I’m struggling to find out what may be a good paint match to the trim.

Unfortunately GT3 scripted handbrakes are big £££ to simply replace.
Rather than patch it, I'd be tempted to mask off the entire painted section, lightly scuff it with 1000 grit wet sand paper, then spray the whole thing the closest silver you can find.
Then give it a couple coats of lacquer.
Then use black panel liner to fill in the GT3 writing, maybe 3 coats.
As you've lacqueted over the silver paint, you can then be quite aggressive in cleaning up any black over spill from painting the writing.
The problem with re-spraying the silver is that would involve removing the leather grab handle, going off threads I've seen about doing that seem to insinuate it's a bit of a mission to do.
That's not to say I might not have to end up doing that, it is obviously the best way but then it risks being a different silver to the gear knob in front of it. I feel a chip repair would be better if not the perfect solution.
Ideally you'd remove it from the car - I think you can just warm it up with a hair dryer and then pull furiously?!
And the colour match is going to be an issue whatever you do - the silver needs to be touched in or resprayed regardless, so you need to find the right colour.
If not, you could spray it in the car - cut a hole in one side of a cardboard box, mask up the leather parts then poke the handbrake lever through the side and into the box. You can then rotate the box to contain all the spray within the cardboard box- you're only going to be using a small amount of spray paint anyway, but get a fan and open all doors/sunroof etc and get good ventilation going through the car.
