Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I used AN fittings to replace the rear clutch lines and fittings.

I thought about repairing the lines again but i dont want to worry about a repeat every time i take the car out and I intend to do many road trips in this car (Le Mans Classic been the next one!)
Leading evidence: 'Use fittings' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair lines' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Since all lines and rack will be replaced, are 997 parts worth looking at?

I'm most likely just to replace all lines from the pump back to the rack with new ones from Porsche.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

I am going to replace mine soon but rather than changing the whole line I am going to silver solder AN fittings to the pipes and use AN PTFE pipe and fittings

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello,
On a road trip to The Alps and my 4S decided to blow a pipe as i was pulling into the hotel parking.
I managed to get some axle stands and get under it in the car park to see what it is and its not fixable until i get home.
How drivable is it without power steering? - just very heavy steering at low speed?
Im concerned about the pump operating without fluid - to get me back i’m going to cut the high pressure line in the engine back and looping it round to the return with a jubilee clip.
This sounds like a nightmare, have you come up with a solution?
I'd be inclined to just drive it, if the pumps empty it obviously won't be generating any pressure and the forces inside will be quite low, and the residual oil may well just about keep it alive. I'd listen carefully and reasses if it starts making bad noises.
If it does destroy it they are not that expensive second hand.
I cut the high pressure hose in the engine bay and looped it round to the low pressure return. It has enough oil in it to keep the pump quiet.
Far from ideal destroying one of the lines but its a case of bodging it for the drive home on Sat. I was concerned with the pump seizing from lack of oil and taking out the auxiliary belt/cooling
There is oil everywhere. Hope it doesnt damage any paintwork or rubber components to badly.
When my steering rack failed (on the drive fortunately) the advice from the garage was to wash the oil off any rubber hoses or fixings asap. That was at the front end mind, so brake lines and coolant pipes. I would clean it off as best you can. Good luck with the trip home - feel for you as I know how I felt when mine let go.
Car is back in the UK, drove it 850 back from the Alps - non stop apart from fuel stops!
Drove surprisingly well. Job tomorrow is to clean up the spilt oil and contact my local Porsche dealership for new pipes!
So I'm looking at options for the repair. I'm most likely just to replace all lines from the pump back to the rack with new ones from Porsche. I get a good discount from my local Porsche dealership (Wilmslow Porsche BTW, can't recommend them enough) but I'm also looking at other options before I order.
Since all lines and rack will be replaced, are 997 parts worth looking at? - any benefit apart from better used examples available?
I will assume the aluminium ferrules have split allowing the pipe to come off? I am going to replace mine soon but rather than changing the whole line I am going to silver solder AN fittings to the pipes and use AN PTFE pipe and fittings
That sounds pretty funky , can you take photos of what you do and let us see how you get on? These old fittings are a crazy price so coming up with more affordable solution is going to be a real help.
I used AN fittings to replace the rear clutch lines and fittings.
My mate has a crimpimg machine for hydraulic pipes and when my power steering pipe broke, he just crimped a new end on. When I made myself a new aircon pipe from Stainless (rather than Aluminium), he just crimped the original flexi pipe to the Stainless pipe I made, like so:
That’s ideal! I did look at this too but I know you need to match the pipe with the correct ferrule and for some reason Porsche went with aluminium… either way we have options
My man can order any size of ferrule from Ally or Stainless and application. I did my aircon pipe from stainless so it would last forever, no other reason.
I’ve just ordered new lines from Porsche.
I thought about repairing the lines again but i dont want to worry about a repeat every time i take the car out and I intend to do many road trips in this car (Le Mans Classic been the next one!)
£1150 for the 2 high pressure lines and the return line from the rack to the middle of the car. The hight pressure at the back of the car is going to be fun. I may have to drop the engine (again)
