Suggestion · Original poster

The garage are likely to want to remove the membrane and break some clips to diagnoise the fault, if its the winder mech it will hopefully get replaced under warranty.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

When I bought the car, the drivers window never operated smoothly. It would get to a certain point and then slow down whilst making unpleasant noises. I got the winder mechanism replaced last year and all was good. Recently and quite suddenly its been very unhappy when moving, especialy at the top of the travel. Its got juddery and seems stuck. When opening the door the window doesn't drop, when closing it the window sits proud of the seal. Sometimes it drops a little, then has a spasm once closed and ends up opening about 1cm. I would have said microswitches but given the juddering operation of the window, I wonder if the winder mechanism is failing again? The garage are likely to want to remove the membrane and break some clips to diagnoise the fault, if its the winder mech it will hopefully get replaced under warranty. What do you reckon the chances are of getting the supplier to pay for the membrane and clips too if the winder is at fault? I think the parts came from Design911, work done by La Rose Porsche in Kent.

POST 3Original post

The winder mech is the same used on the boxster. My car had a new mech and the window would never go fully down unlike the other side. I researched and found there is a stopper held on with a screw that needs removing when fitting the ‘universal’ mechanism to the 996.
