So now that I have my new (but used)
911
, the parking lot side door dent paranoia has begun. Does anyone have any tips or recommendations on anything they use to protect their side doors from other side doors in close parking lot situations?? I was looking into this product below but I saw some guy write in one of the reviews that he "
purchased a Porsche Panamera and unfortunately they do NOT work on my Porsche because the doors are heavy metal"

Whatever you do is going to look silly, face some level of ridicule and in the worst case attract someone to be an idiot with purpose just because you're trying to maintain your baby. I'm with you though, I hate parking ANYWHERE and usually don't. I'm shopping air B & B's just to find private driveways because of motel parking. Anyhow, my two cents? I'd buy myself two dollar store pool noodles and perhaps duplicate the door string / close design shown here. Total cost? nearly nothing and with the proper design they should work good. Either that or it's a stupid old man idea that you should ignore right away, I'm at that age where it could go either way. PS Those of us with aluminum doors (almost all of us) would need a different mounting design than a flexible magnet. There are a lot of ways to do it, even material straps that were thin and you rolled the windows up to trap them and account for the desired height. Those noodles don't weigh anything so there's a lot of designs that could be considered.
Thanks for the tip! BTW, my car is ceramic coated if that helps here.
I've been pretty successful just looking for end spots and not being afraid to walk a bit.
I NEVER participate in "close parking lot situations". Or valet parking. Never. And I've owned 30 or so vehicles in my very long life. If I can't find a safe spot, I'm out. Too many options and don't need that in my life. And it's worked. I haven't had a door ding in 40 years. It's the way I roll and always have. I'm 78 years old by the way. It's just not that complicated.
I hear ya! I'm thinking of just taking an Uber every time I need to go to the gym or supermarket lol
Until they chip it then nothing but a resprayed panel or an expert spot job is going to satisfy, there is no brush touch or Dr Rescue Chip that is going to change that fact.
when I first got my car - I was the same trying to shop for "protectors" - magnets, films etc. and yes over the years you do get some a** wipes who have no manners and are basically a bull when it comes to opening doors.
I had to ask myself if I wanted to be "that guy" who takes 15 mins to park and faff around with multi coloured accessories. Of course this depends on your parking situation and where you go, but the others have some really good pointers above.
Magnetic ones can be stolen and all not work if you have aluminum doors.....falls right off. Your best bet is to get
PPF
on your doors. On a Silver car is definitely undetectable and does offer some protection.
Next
- park by other nice cars! Just be picky or park farther away. For the garage the same advice. The
PPF
will stop small abrasions from pocketbooks and dangly things as you pass by. That is about it. Then you just do not have to think or obsess about it. IF you get a real dent then (since the
PPF
will protect against paint damage), you can probably have it pulled out with a dentless repair which avoids paintwork etc. That's what I am doing..... pretty good so far. The dentless guys can do amazing work. I worry more about abrasions and rock chips and slight door scratches from parking, like you do.
