Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Purchased 1999 996 with oil in the coolant / intermix issue and lots of white smoke out the exhaust. I RR AOS along with several coolant flushes and a couple of oil changes. No more white smoke and the car runs great. But I’m still seeing Mayo in the coolant. I Flushed a few more times. Then drained the oil without refilling it again I left the car over a few days with water in the coolant lines and no oil in the engine. Removed the oil plug and water came out of the engine. Can the culprit be the heat exchanger? Or are cracks in the heads causing water to seap through? Reason I’m refusing to accept cracked heads is how well the car runs and drives after replacing the AOS....

POST 2Original post

A car with a cracked head can run just fine. The oil cooler can be removed and pressure tested.
