If your car is higher mileage, would strongly recommend ordering new foam for the drivers seat, other wise it'll look saggy.

All subtle changes but enough to break up all the Grey.

I had to replace the upholstery on my Boxster S with tan seats, used this kit and was very happy with the results.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys in my quest to restore my 99 C4 the Grey seats need help . The leather is cracked and just looks like crap . A highly reputable shop was recommended to me . Based on pics I sent I received a quote of $5200 .
That is me pulling the seats and delivering to the shop . All four seats/backs to be stripped . The existing foam to be steamed and repaired . Additional foam to be added to build up the bolsters some . New black leather with red stitching on the perimeter and backs of the seats . Center sections will be plaid cloth .
I have never had a pro reupholster seats before . I have seen pics of his work very high quality . Is $5200 in the ballpark for this type of work ? I am near the Atlanta area if that matters .
Within the last year I completed full interior changes in 2 NA1 NSXs. Leather upgraded in both seats, rewrapped full leather steering wheel, Alcantara door panel inserts, shift boot, new seat belts along with sexy stitching, some panel mods and stock interior component repairs. Both jobs were done at the shop, I did nothing but drive them in and make lots of decisions lol. Both jobs were in the 8k-9k range. The shop is E3 Customsvery reputable.
Thanks guys I just needed some confirmation that the price was in the ballpark . It's a lot of money to me but I have a vision for the restoration . My car is black over Grey. I want to paint side mirrors and brake calipers red . Red checkered flag side graphics at the bottom of the doors .
The black/red theme in the interior is carried over to the seats and shifter boot . I think I will paint the center console gloss black . All subtle changes but enough to break up all the Grey. I have black herringbone coco mats . I will slowly get this all pulled together . Earlier this year the FSI 3.8 Stage II engine was completed so that part is done .
To give you a reference point, I was qutoted 2500 for a set of Sparco Evo XLs in leather, alcantara centers and red stitching. No foam work and theyre brand new seats. The foam work is probably very labor intensive.
The sparcos are one heck of a $ deal for the quality, look and comfort. I haven't missed my oem seats on the street since I took them out of the car in 2006. Not comfortable at all for short trips or long.
I love it how everyone give an option that has nothing to do with what the OP wants.
Hes looking for custom seats with different dolor accents and cloth plaid inserts.
I would ask for some references of previous work that theyve done and how the customers feel about the work they did.
It doesnt sound like too much if they are a top of the line shop.
Have you looked into this shop? If you sent the seats to them they may be around 4K for the fronts.

My friend just put Recaro sportster cs seats in his car and it was close to that.
If you have manual seat as opposed to the fully electrical seat and don't care about the rear seats consider getting some manual 997 seats. I bought some 997 seats (fully electrical which makes it harder) in great shape and only paid $300.00. And grey and black seats are much more common! Even if you pay more you can probably save $4,000.00 and the 997 seats are much more comfortable!
very good point! Cant tell you how many times Ive been told to swap the seats out for 997s. Owning both a 996 and a 997 there is a pretty big difference in the way the seats hold you.
Well, PO has a vision, wants red thread in his seats and wants some custom fabric tied in. To me, I understood his question to be "is this in the right price range" and
not
"what are other seat options" or at least I think......
I found existing aftermarket seats with the colors I wanted and then worked my interior into the color the seats came with. I couldn't be happier to get these over the stock seats for comfort overall. But if you want to stay with stock seats and get them customized, I guess it ain't cheap
I like the interior options you are picking, it will look nice! Good luck
In a perfect world I retain my memory seat on driver's side . Passenger side is power with no memory . I have not ruled out 997 seats but really don't want to deal with the electric conversion .
The shop owner told me the seats will be much more comfortable and with some bolster buildup will hold better . I am not doing AX or DE . I want comfort with some sport thrown in for mountain twisties . I think the custom route is the way to go . But I am still deciding .

Could probably drop the seats, kit and foam at an upholstery shop and be done for $1500 ish all in, and much much faster then waiting for something custom to be made.
I have the lseat samples on my desk . I thought about them early on but I have a specific vision for the interior that they can't supply . But thanks for the suggestion .
If you are going to all that trouble Porsche offer a base foam which sits around 1" lower at the rear, so you drop in lower more like the 997 seats. The trimmer should be able to shave that for you too.
I have sat in a car with that foam and it is much nicer, so much so I did swap for 997 seats. It was the one that that always annoyed me with my 996, the stock hardback sport seats just didn't drop low enough.
I don't have samples of the plaid but this is the style and color I am looking for . I forwarded the link below to the upholstery shop and he said no problem getting that pattern and color .

Sounds like you have a great plan. If you are interested in a comparison quote at a Porsche specialty shop, try Sonder Works in Cornelius, NC, north of Charlotte. Their primary business is Porsche upholstery for all vintages. I've visited there, and it's impressive. They may be able to give you a ballpark quote that would provide an additional reference point.
To do 4 seats in my dads 21 Model T touring, first quote he got was 1300 per seat for GM cloth.
He got irritated bought a commercial sewing machines and did his own, he has way more talent for making stuff than me..
He's 81, and has no interest in doing another interior. But is work is awesome.. Good job dad.. !
