Suggestion

Why don't you use zinc primer, that's how they come from the factory, then put a coat of laquer over the top, keeps them looking oem, plus the laquer helps keep them fresh looking, as the brake dust doesn't tend to stick.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

There was a top tip in this months "Porsche Post" to treat unsightly rusty rear brake hubs with heat resistant Hammerite. Anyone tried this? The only heat resistant Hammerite I can find in radiator enamel in white, not appropriate! My rear brake hubs are a bit rusty and I fancy a tidy up. So I've got some normal smooth grey Hammerite, does anyone know if its heat resistant enough to last? Thanks. Migration info. Legacy thread was 116830

POST 2Original post

I will ask at work - mine could use that too. Migration info. Legacy thread was 116832

POST 3Original post

Why don't you use zinc primer, that's how they come from the factory, then put a coat of laquer over the top, keeps them looking oem, plus the laquer helps keep them fresh looking, as the brake dust doesn't tend to stick. I have used this method on my last three cars works a treat...... Migration info. Legacy thread was 116835

POST 4Original post

I painted my Corrado calipers 3+ years ago with black smoothrite...............still look black to this day and have stood up to the heat well Migration info. Legacy thread was 116836

Will give that a try - cheers Peter. Migration info. Legacy thread was 116842

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Peter, The Hammerite you used, was it just the normal version, or was it a special varient? Thanks, Martin Migration info. Legacy thread was 116896

POST 8Original post

I bought some black heat resistant Hammerite from my local Halfords last year - I'm sure it's still available? The heat resistance stuff is thinner, so goes on flat. The trouble with normal hammerite is it's too thick and will probably not look smooth. Migration info. Legacy thread was 116899

POST 9Original post

My discs don't last long enough to warrant doing that  Migration info. Legacy thread was 116950

POST 10Original post

I have read somewhere that factory discs have a coating on the 'hub' section (haven't got my car to look at and can't remember) whereas the Zimmerman replacements (apparently the OE manufacturer) are not coated and go rusty. There is a fair difference in price between the Zimmerman efforts and a set from OPC! What price a rusty hub? Migration info. Legacy thread was 116955

My high heels always catch brake pedal and I'm forever riding the brakes. Migration info. Legacy thread was 117124
