Just check the breather tube and lower hose for cracks or stiffness, as many people replace them due to age rather than length.

I am replacing the AOS on my 02 986 S.

AOS replacememt - 986 Forum - The Community for Porsche Boxster & Cayman Owners

Suggestion

I had read that too but I was able to replace the AOS on my '98 using the existing line (which is good as the replacement is kind of pricey).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am replacing the AOS on my 02 986 S. I bought a replacement from Porsche dealership. Do I need an extended line that feeds into AOS? I heard the design changed do the line might be to short? Thanks.

POST 2Original post

I had read that too but I was able to replace the AOS on my '98 using the existing line (which is good as the replacement is kind of pricey).

POST 3Original post

DWBOX, perhaps is a good time to replace the accordeon hoses as well, since these age and become very brittle I know means more expense but that way you will not have to do the job twice.. The accordeon hose that goes to the top of the bank 2 is accesible by removing the cover behind the seats and you don't have to remove the intake plennum

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I’ll will look into, thanks. Do you have a picture of the part?

POST 5Original post

Sorry, I don't.. but the AOS has two plastic 'accordeon hoses' a short one that connects the AOS to the hose right next to the throttle body and a long one connecting the AOS to a valve in top of the cylinder head (#4..?) right behind the driver seat. These hoses are thin walled and will dry up with time (and heat) and become very brittle, let me try to find a P/N for you. EDIT: The hoses that I am talking about are included on this kit https://www . f c p e u r o.com/products/porsche-engine-air-oil-separator-kit-vaico-99610702602kt P/N Porsche /VNE 99610702602KT (remove spaces)

POST 6Original post

The updated AOS should still work with your original hose on an ’02. Just check the breather tube and lower hose for cracks or stiffness, as many people replace them due to age rather than length.

POST 7Original post

Putting this out here for info only (because I have it on my 996 and I’m a huge fan). https://ultimateaos.com/ https://lnengineering.com/products/parts-and-upgrades-for-porsche-boxster-cayman-and-911-engines/the-uaos-ultimate-aos/the-porsche-987-ultimate-aos-uaos-al-complete-kit.html Not paid, just a very pleased customer. I have this on my 996 and I believe he has it for the 986 as well. Makes any future PCV changes a breeze, and the track kit will drain any accumulated oil back into the crankcase. I’m running 2qt over on my car.
