No, the waiting list seems to create higher demand than supply, so 'nearly new' (ie 5k miles used) go for higher than new.

I can change the spec 6 weeks before delivery but I've gone for this for now: Seal Grey, the new 18" Carrera 5 spokes, -10mm sports suspension, sports exhaust, black leather, manual.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
37 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Due to the waiting lists it'll be the other side of xmas now, so will be a 2003 model / reg. Worth the wait though. Funnily enough it's going to be cheaper than a low mileage year old version.
Christmas?
It would drive me mad to wait such a long time
Apart from the mechanical options, which did you specified?
Not much as I guess you are fighting against weight...?
That's what I thought. I like the way the lamps blend in to silver, but yes, too common. I've only seen one Seal Grey 911 and fell for it straight away.
2003 sounds good to me - I've got an order in too (turbo) but I've got to wait until 2004 for delivery! I've decided I can't think about it for at least 18 months or I'll go bonkers.
ah well...all good things etc.
Steve
You must be going stir crazy. McNab has a tubs on order too. Poor thing has to console himself with a new C4 to bide him over....

Roadrunner, good choice, but cancel it and order the forthcoming Carrera 2S (i have it on good authority it will be a stonking 3.8L) and is released next year.
Colour wise seal grey is 'ok', lapis blue is the 'don' or basalt black is good.
Big tip, make sure you take black or dk blue lthr, a porsche buyer advised me that anything else knocks the residual value.

I've always fancied black leather anyway, ooo err, missus. The 3.8 sounds good, but will it come with a massive body kit like the C4S? I'd like to keep some clean uncluttered lines.
Roadrunner, many congratulations on your purchase.
I'm only 15 mins from you, so would love to see the porker when it arrives.
PS. Stick to seal grey, a beautiful colour in my opinion.
it is a lovely grey
not bad but just not all that exciting, Lapis blue is gorgeous as is the new metallic black
each to his own...if you like Grey go for it.

M3 will be 3 yrs old when turbo arrives, so it'll be shagged. (actually it is already) As for what stays...lets face it there is no contest - Caterham stays, M3 goes - (gotta' keep the Seven to show how slow the turbo is on track)
Lapis blue and black look the nuts, but all the year old versions I've seen are covered in tiny circular scratches, when the sun comes out. It seems you have to wash the car with baby oil and the girlfriends satin knickers to avoid this.
I nearly order a C4S from Europe and could have saved something like 5 or 6 grand. But the saving on the C2 is something closer to 3 grand, which is not really worth the bother I guess. But I think the dealers can only price it at list and add extra for the options?
Congratulations on an excellent choice of car. For what its worth I think seal grey is the right choice, it was what I was going for and think it is lovely. Less common than silver but will always look "new". The blue and black colours IMO don't look that great on the 996 as they seem to age quickly, although i reckon they do look lovely on the 993.
My alfa is gunmetal grey (very similar) and pretty easy to live with. Doesn't need a wax / polish / chamois. Also doesn't show up scratches / dust / crap.
Paul - Well I was going to leave the M3 on the driveway and clean it on Sundays, then I thought... nah...let's shag it.
Dom - hence it's shagged.... 3rd set of tyres, 4th set of pads, second set of discs, second clutch, Four oil services to hold it together.
It's been a lot of fun though - and I STILL have two people offering good money for it (they are not the ones who I've taken on track!)

Would be a good plan... cept: I've got a new M3 and waiting until mid 2005 is just too long - I'll probably have an order in for a zimmer by then (with 19" alloys of course).
Good plan to order 2 though... I might buy one off you. e mail me when you get it.

deja vu Lee
Having just bought a new M3 and an R500 - I don't think my missus (or my accountant) would accommodate a 911 as well.
And before you tell me to sell them.... and buy a second hand turbo - don't! I want at least one quick car
Congrats - good luck for the long wait.
Only sugestion, have you tried a sports exhaust on the 996 2002 model against a standard. I found after 30 mis I had a headache !! with the sports exhaust plus at good wood you would need to go on a noisy day.
I have a c2 taga comming in end july - (silver - common but boy does it look good.)
Cheers, must confess I've not even heard the sports exhaust yet. Just thought the more engine tune the better. I'm still weighing up whether it might be better to get the JZM exhaust, chip, filter package instead to provide 350bhp, for only 2.5k. On the other hand there are unconfirmed rumours of a 3.8 higher output engine coming onto the option lists for the lighter C2. I've heard it's likely to cost 6k ish, providing circa 350bhp. What I'd really like is this new unit with a JZM tweek to produce circa 380bhp. Combined with my target weight of 1200kg will give 316bhp per tonne (standard 996tt = 280/tonne).

Well I've finally put my deposit down and ordered a spanking new facelifted 2002 Carrera from Lancasters in Colchester. This will be my first Porsche and the realisation of a boyhood dream. I can't wait!
I can change the spec 6 weeks before delivery but I've gone for this for now: Seal Grey, the new 18" Carrera 5 spokes, -10mm sports suspension, sports exhaust, black leather, manual. No spoilers or bolt on's at all. Only thing I might change is colour to silver.
I've gone for the rwd in manual to save weight and increase the fun. This model in standard trim is some 180kg lighter than the C4S tiptronic, for example. Together with carbon fibre bucket seats and the omission of various unwanted mass (no rear seats & reels, stripped out luggage bay, light battery etc) it should weigh in some 1/4 ton lighter. Should be plenty nippy enough on the roads day to day.
