Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Eventually I had to buy new motors and replaced both of them.
Leading evidence: 'Replace of them' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check tracks' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

When I replace the motor I noticed that the the gears were slipping.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Apparently there are no shops around that do Targa top work that anybody is aware, there was a couple leads on the 997 forum but they did not pan out. So I am posting this as the general query to the forum Targa owners for advice and asking if any one had similar problems, how did they they fix it.
I have a 996 2002 Targa that I retired as my daily driver and have made it into a garage queen for weekends only. When opening my top it had become ajar with the driver's side open about 3 in while the passages side is open about 2.5 in. I finally had to take the motors off and was able to straighten out the top. It has been closing and opening slowly before this happened. I lubricated the cables and the tracts till I could move it well by hand. When I replace the motor I noticed that the the gears were slipping. Eventually I had to buy new motors and replaced both of them. The problem I have now is when the top is closing the front half on both sides go up and fully close easily but the back half on the driver's side does not go all the way up in the back as it moves forward to close. So when the top is shut the driver rear is dropped about 1/2 inch. If I open the top and close the top and push up near the rear corner on the driver's side it will close properly. I have check the tracks to make sure there was no obstruction. It also makes a ratcheting noise when trying to lift the rear portion of the glass up into the final position. At this point I have researched all the posts I could find on Rennlist and other forums, and reviewed any manual I could get to try to find out what the problem could be but I am at a loss of the cause.
This weekend I am going back to the beginning and relubricated the tracks and as much of the cables as I can and see if that corrects the problem. I have looked down the tract as far as I could with a small bore scope and found no obstruction in the tracks
themselves.
