Leading evidence: 'changeover valve' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'changeover valve' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, A bit of a stupid question based on (probably) my own carelessness. In the middle of my engine out project, I cant figure out where this wire connector goes (I have been labeling and noting everything in a log but I may have gotten careless when I disconnected it this time). Pic attached. It looks most similar to the injector harness connectors, and its on the back of the engine. However those are all spoken for, this one routes between the vacuum reservoir and the plenum somewhere.

POST 2Original post

Most likely a change over valve. Square grey rectangle things. Could also be the fuel tank valve just off the throddle body. What color r the wires?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looks like Red/blue and Purple/red Update: I have figured out that the OTHER end of this harness goes into the brake booster near the throttle body. Does anyone know where this end goes to?

POST 4Original post

I happen to be cleaning up my engine compartment. Is it this end (upper left in pic)?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thats the other end I figured out. Im having trouble figuring out where the back end of that wire goes - it connects to something near the bellhousing (I think).

POST 6Original post

That plug is for "tiptronic only" ..........If you have a 6MT that plug is not used... If you have a Tiptronic that plug goes to a vacuum change-over valve that controls a coolant water shut-down valve to the heat exchanger for the Tiptronic transmission....( keeps the coolant flow shut down or faster warm-up then opens to cool the Tiptronic Transmission)..

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Skip, you are a wealth of knowledge. It looked suspicious because inside the whole thing is dusty (I have a 6MT). If it had been plugged in, the inside would have at least been clean.

Thanks man.....It's fun for me sometimes like playing a " Trivia Game" ....( although not trivial to you when you NEED it) ...I have forgotten more about these cars than most will ever know...but answering these questions is a good brain exercise....thanks for asking ..
