Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The next day, I used the vacuum tool, and yeah, I only got to about 15psi, it sucked up 4 liters.
Leading evidence: 'Use vacuum tool, and yeah, i only got' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill 3 gallons and i know it should take 6' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The first time I tried I don't think I had enough vacuum and was only able to fill 3 gallons and I know it should take 6.

I am just finishing up a few things before being able to drive it and the biggest issue I have come across is filling the coolant.

Thinking about it after I did not purge the bit of air out of the coolant intake line before filling the system so wondering if this has hurt my results.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a 2002 C4S that I am in the process of finishing up the install of a new short block. I am just finishing up a few things before being able to drive it and the biggest issue I have come across is filling the coolant. I do have a amazon vacuum fill tool for the job. The first time I tried I don't think I had enough vacuum and was only able to fill 3 gallons and I know it should take 6. I drained off what I could from the drain plug and tried again and now have 4 gallons in the system out of the 6 it should have. Am I doing something wrong? The gauge on the vacuum tool has a different scale than 0-25 Hg (I believe it goes from 0 to -1 and I reached a vacuum of -.80 which is within the range that the tool recommends). Thinking about it after I did not purge the bit of air out of the coolant intake line before filling the system so wondering if this has hurt my results. Might try a third time again tonight taking that in account.
After watching countless videos and reading forum posts I am kind of confused as to what to try next. Should I be able to get the full 6 gallons in the system with using the vacuum or is it always going to be less? Is 4 gallons enough to drive it to purge the air out of the system?
Just for clarity I am assuming the 0 to -1 scale on you gauge is BAR ...so .8 BAR will work IF it actually holds this value for some time...... IF the system doesn't hold this vacuum the tool will not work and you will not get the full amount....so test that it can actually HOLD this vacuum..
You must empty the coolant from the system for it to work......it will not work well if half full of coolant...Anshi has a very good/easy detailed process to fully drain the coolant system, search for it in the archives..
2 gallon low is way too much to drive the car....
I did leave it sit with a vacuum for a few minutes and it did hold the vacuum ok. This is the actual device. I had it to .08 MPa vacuum which when I do an online conversion is only about 12 psi? maybe this is my issue
Porschetech3 knows better than i do, but my experience is that I had to use my vacuum tool twice in a row to get it to fill all the way. After suffering an unscheduled spontaneous disassembly of one of the coolant hoses, my indie repaired it and by the time I got home (about 15 minutes later) I got a low coolant warning. The next day, I used the vacuum tool, and yeah, I only got to about 15psi, it sucked up 4 liters. I drove it and after it cooled, I could see it needed more, so I did it again and it took 2 more liters. It has been at the max line ever since.
Well...-.8bar = -.08MPa = -11.6psi = -23.6inhg so I don't think that is your issue..
Most likely you haven't fully drain the coolant, if you haven't followed Ahsai's process mentioned above, then you very very likely haven't fully drained the coolant and the air lift tool will not work as effectively...
