Responses to previous threads have simply recommended taking it to the local Official Porsche Centre, but nobody on the forum came back to say what the OPC did to their car or advised to do to get rid of the problem??
Leading evidence: 'Use regularly' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend taking it' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

There have been a couple of threads in the past about a custardy / mayonaise-like substance collecting in the horizontal oil filler pipe of the 996. I have recently bought a C4S (2002) and have noticed the same problem.

Can anybody out there give me any advice? My car has an extended warranty which runs out at the end of this month, so might be worth getting it seen if this is a serious problem!!
Thanks in advance

First of all make sure you renew the warranty..dont forget!
I took mine to the OPC about the mayo and was told thats its fine and nothing to worry about. It goes in summer but returns as the temps drop. Its just condensation.

Also try taking the car out for a long blast, that can get rid of it...it can be caused by too many short stop start journeys...

I'll definitely renew the warranty - just phoned Porsche to ask how much...£895 (GULP!!!) Always knew this Porsche lark wasn't going to be cheap!!!
Thanks very much for the response - feel much better about that now!

Cookie,
I'm no expert but a small amount around the filler pipe is considered normal and comes from small amounts of moisture in the oil itself (mine has a tiny blob). I believe its a problem when the custardy stuff is more like shaving foam and there's lots of it. The other thing to look out for (i'm informed) is loss of oil pressure and overheating, so keep an eye on the gauges. That notwithstanding apparently you would notice a sudden loss of power if anything untoward is happening with the cyclinder walls etc.
911&porsche world Jan issue (i think) had a readers letter and accompanying photo describing the same worry and he was told that it was normal at that level.
Like i say i'm no expert and there are plenty on here that can probably add far more than me. In short don;t spend all your time worrying about it and enjoy the car (i'm over my worrying what if phase now
)

Someone asked about this just the other day, a small amount seems to be normal for most people. Mine had quite a bit to start with, but hardly get any now the car is used regularly.

I totally agree - there's little point buying one if you're going to spend all the time worrying!! I'll get over it...I'm sure!!
Thanks for the response Tim, great information. I can't believe how useful this forum is!!
Cheers

Yep it's emulsification of condensation (water) and oil.. Generally clears but I 'wipe' mine occassionally... Other types of engines if you see in the oil filler cap it implies typically a head gasket prob where oil and coolant (water) get together... From what I understand on the 911 engine it could be a problem if there's a lot !!
