When the 996 is unlocked with either of the master keys, the driver seat position/external mirrors immediately adjust the position to the value stored in the "Key"-button memory for particular master key with which the car is unlocked.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

After the dealer programmed new keys to 996.2 is not showing key # on the central display no more when unlocking the car. It used to say: "Key 1" same as in 987. They don't know how to re-enable it back to show the key number on the display and claimed of "It is not supposed to show the key number".
Does anybody know of how to re-enable it to show: "Key 1", "Key 2", or "Key3" on the display? Seems it's tied to the immobilizer RFID chip registered in the security module because the wallet key is not having a remote transmitter and shown on the 987.1 as the Key 3.

987.1:
My 02 C4S shows it (KEY 1) every time I get in it. But I have no idea how to turn the notification on or off , sorry
EDIT: wait, I may be thinking about my 997let me check later today!
UPDATE: My 996 does not show the key #, the 997 does.
997 987 show key number because if equipped with seat memory it can be set for individual drivers/keys, on 996 986 the seat memory is not programmed to keys but has button 1 2 3 for each driver...
My 987.1 doesn't have the seats memory. It's having the manual seats and it's showing the keys # on the central display when unlocked with either of the master keys until the engine starts up. When the driver door unlocked with the wallet key, it's showing on the display the key # of the master key it was previously operated until I put the wallet key into the ignition lock (you have 10sec until the alarm goes off otherwise). When the wallet key is inserted to the ignition lock and the immobilizer gets a response from the RFID chip in the key, the display updates the key # to the wallet key.
996.1/2 don't have the key button #3 for each driver for electrical seats. They have the "Key"-button, #1, and #2. When the 996 is unlocked with either of the master keys, the driver seat position/external mirrors immediately adjust the position to the value stored in the "Key"-button memory for particular master key with which the car is unlocked. The #1 and #2 seat/mirrors position buttons are stored values regardless of any of the keys. The wallet key doesn't have any relations to the seats/mirrors memory.
There are 2 versions of the 996 memory seats: one has 3 presets, one has 2 presets plus the "key" button. As far as I know there has never been an setting in the 996 to show the key# on the dash display; there is no option in piwis to enable this.
Yeah mine had it I think because at first the dealers when trying to add the used key they couldn't (of course as I learned the procedure later on after the visit) so I had noticed the only existing master key still was showing Key 1 as I noticed they didn't change it. After another dealer added a new master key and a wallet key with a different key cap with RFID chip it's showing no more and I haven't seen an evidence so far from other folks with 996.2 that anybody are having such shown on the display.
I have the steps for PIWIS for adding the new keys there is no option to show/not show the key # on the display and the dealers have shown me so. But I don't have the manual for other configuration units other person referred if there is so it could be for the Instrument Cluster coding. My instrument cluster is K21.
