Looking for feedback on the both the TPC and Softronic Flash for 997TT.
Lots of claims and dyno graphs, but none of them seem to stack up.
E.G. TPC claim 575 crank and have a graph of 520rwhp on the dyno (shows a before graph of 430rwhp, which seems a bit high for a stock car)
Softronic claim 615 crank and there does not seem to be a dyno graph anywhere that is of a flashed only car. There is graphs with exhausts fitted which only show between 480 and 494 depending on the source. These figures seem a bit weak.
I realize all dynos are different, which is why I am asking for feedback from owners.
Geoff.
Geoff,
To be honest the top tuners will all be producing similar figures regardless of what dyno charts say, because they like to keep things relatively safe.
Nobody can tell you want the crank hp is unless they pop the engine out and the only true indication is rwhp and even thatt can vary between dynos quite substantially. Anyone stating crank hp is using a calculation based on whp and is basically a guesstimate at drivetrain losses and usually is used so that folks can understand it in relation to the factory hp listed in spec sheets.
The other aspect is that on a TT the power incerase will always be dramatic compared to a NA engine and so a few hp here or there makes little to no difference and some tuners prefer to stay on the lower side of figures, especially the Germans.
Any option that allows you to do the flash yourself i.e. Softrronic, TPC or FVD is a good one in my eyes.
As I've always said about chiptuning (rempas, reflash, DME tune) is that you should go with one of the top tuners and go with what makes you feel comfortable, because the figures only tell part of the story.
Softronic and TPC come up a lot because of the population of US owners that like to mod and use the forums, but there are plenty of other options as well. I say this as sometimes local support is nice to have, although in most cases not required.
Have you considered tuning closer to home like PowerChips? Not Porsche specialists, but still have been tuning software on cars for years so maybe worth checking out.
Revo is another well known brand specifically for VAG and pretty certain they have dealers in Oz.
Another to look at is APR who have dealers in NSW and have always offered great products for VAG cars.
Do a serach on some of the above specifically for the 997TT and what you want to hear is how smooth the power delivery has become, rather than just the hp figures.
You may have already considered the above, but thought I'd throw them out there anyway, because sometimes you can swept along by the crowd.
Our dyno shows 430-440whp corrected for a stock 997TT(I have probably seen 10 cars run and turn up these numbers)... our standard dyno tune(on the dyno) nets roughly 500-510whp corrected. When looking at dynos dont look at the final numbers but look at the % gain from stock to tuned. The reason why ours is pricier than others is because we do tune the car on the dyno... everyone is different. We do have a "standard" tune that encompasses all "stock" cars however you will always net more from "dyno" tuning.
