Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have enquired about the cost of a 12 year service and 111 point check at my local OPC. The service is £2,451.44 (incl VAT) and the 111 point check is £451 inc VAT. I want the 111 point check as I am thinking about putting a 3 year Porsche warranty on the car. We have owned it since new and it has a full OPC service history and only 11,700 miles since new. If we sell it in the next three years it would be quite good to sell it privately with the benefit of a warranty. I asked if there was any discount as both the service and the 111 point check are being done together. The response was that there are no discounts. Is this the experience that others find too? I live in Hertfordshire and don't want to travel to Aberdeen but I am interested if this is the case everywhere else in the network.

POST 2Original post

What percentage of the car will they replace for £2,400? I think I would take it to a specialist and not bother with the warranty. A car with that mileage will not be hard to sell. You can let the next buyer get the warranty and pay for the check.

POST 3Original post

If its got OPC full service history and you are just renewing the warranty why do you have to pay £450 for a 111 point check ? I understand if you just want to add a warranty for the first time you would require the check done and all service work is up to date ,The fact you are going to be getting it serviced at a cost of £2,500 .As has been said at that milage it is sound ,I would be looking at going to a Porsche Specialist where the work will be done in accordance to Porsche and at a fraction of the cost .

POST 5Original post

I've been quoted £1650 Inc VAT for a 12yr service at OPC Glasgow There are discounted labour rates for older cars and a PGGB discount on parts. I'm surprised at the cost of your 111point check. The difference in cost between an "extension" and a "Stand Alone" warranty is £80 across the board. I assumed that was the cost of the 111 point check. As said above, you don't need to 111 point check if you are extending warranty https://assets-v2.porsche.com/gb/-/media/Project/P... Edited by elan362 on Friday 28th March 16:24

POST 6Original post

If it's PDK a good chunk of that price is for the oil and filter pan on the PDK and clutch unit, which will easily take the price of a major service over £2k at some OPCs.

POST 7Original post

My £1650 quote was for a PDK car at an OPC. And includes the PDK & transmission oil service. It excluded the serpentine belt and tensioner ( they were replaced at 10yr. I declined the roof rain check as I have removed the problematic roof drain diaphragms that are prone to blocking and I personally checked they were clear a couple of months ago. I noticed they have omitted replacing the the 2 x engine air filter from the scope. I'm not worried. As they are easy to DIY replace. It is willow be cheaper for me to do it, and I might get some nice BMC ones ins

POST 8Original post

Best practice is to phone around a couple of OPCs, even if some are an hour or so away. Showrooms aren't a bad place to sit and the majority are within walking distance of shops. Makes for a nice day out.

I live in Hertfordshire and don't want to travel to Aberdeen but I am interested if this is the case everywhere else in the network. I put a slightly newer mint, fsh 981 Boxster through inspection, they identified the exhaust bolts were rusted and needed replacement at proposed a cost of £1100 to replace, air con condensors at £2200, said it needed a new battery at a cost of hundreds and tyres due to age at about a thousand. Comical thing is none of those items under warranty anyway, they suggested none could be fixed under existing third party warranty. I did the correct spec tyres for half quoted price, battery just went on a conditioner, local specialist did bolts for £300 and got condensers through at half that price and under the existing third party warranty. I then took it back to Porsche for inspection. In summary you almost want an Indy to go through the car first before the Porsche inspection…

POST 10Original post

They’re not the smartest really, bundling so many items into the 12y service. A 12yo car is ripe for indy servicing at the best of times and presenting a maintenance quote of that magnitude will obviously cause people to look for alternatives.

POST 11Original post

A few years ago the cost of an OPC 12 year service on a 987 Spyder PDK was £1200 ...

POST 12Original post

Hertfordshire you say? You seem to have the pick of the Porsche Indy’s with JZM, RPM etc right on your doorstep… https://rpmtechnik.co.uk/porsche-servicing/fixed-p...

POST 13Original post

If a 12 year old car that's only done 1,000 miles a year has been serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's schedule somebody has wasted a hell of a lot of money on unnecessary servicing. Lots of expensive air filters and spark plugs just for starters.

POST 14Original post

OP, is your motivation for the warranty purely on speculation that you might sell within the next three years? There are plenty of 981s on auto trader without warranty, that seem to sell without too much difficulty. For what it’s worth I paid the 12 year OPC service and warranty fee. Only time will tell if that was a financially sensible thing to do.

POST 15Original post

If you enter Marks and Spencer to buy some lunch, it’s the same price in Cornwall as it is in Cumbria. Different OPC charge wildly different prices for the same work. As others have said, book it in, try and get a loan car and have a day out. In my experience lots of the Indy’s you have heard of, within M25, are not far off OPC money now.

POST 16Original post

I paid just under £2200 at OPC, a specialist quoted £1150 using aftermarket parts plus £350 for the gearbox. Got a courtesy car for two days to thrash around in, and some nice coffee.

Most OPCs will give a PCGB or 10 to fifteen percent discount if you push for it as they clearly want and need the work and also to negotiate a free MOT included preferably from a contemporary OPC with in house MOT facilities. If you are really cheeky you may just get another c £40off if you refuse the compimentary top up 1 litre of oil OPCs like to include on service but then overcharge you for. Declining the complimentary wash and vac may strengthen your bargaining power even further with some OPCs. Price seems expensive paid just £1600 ish with discount for 718 GT4 major end of last year including 2 day quality loaner and MOT. 991.2 GT3 CS manual was £1900 ish for a major in 2022 with MOT 3 day quality loaner. POST 19Original post

Forgot to say bearing in mind the OP has owned his car from new and the exceptionally low mileage if he can get a decent service price with discount from an OPC even several hundred ££ over the Indie cost it would be worth paying for thus keeping a full OPSH with six services stamps which a buyer would pay for rather than devalue the car by having the latest major service at an Indie with possible warranty implications too merely to save a couple of hundred £ or so.

Just loosen and re-tighten every 6 years until there are more miles on the car and save yourself a packet. I extend the drive belt interval as well - others might not. On a little used car the "per mile" cost of religiously following the service schedule and paying for extended warranty works out as a lot of money.

Fair point but not sticking to recommended service intervals for the sake of saving a few quid is invariably false economy and bear in mind Porsche have a 2 year service interval not 1 year anyway unlike any rivals. The further issue as ever of course is that many service items are time based not mileage based so if for example the OP was to use the car for many short journeys throughout the winter too irrespective of the low mileage covered this would prematurely degrade the oil when compared with high mileage long run use with possible engine repercussions if serviced at longer intervals. Other aspect of course is possible adverse affect on the cars residuals again for the sake of saving a few quid.

I used some Sussex based specialists who were darlings of the forums for a while, when I had my 993. Going back 10 years now but OPC Sussex were much the same money back then. And I got a new Porsche as a loan car.

It includes plugs and then he’s got a delta of two grand to cover anything else? I’m not saying it’s the best option, but opc costs do seem exceedingly high for warranty peace of mind.

As a purchaser of an older Porsche I would possibly be more happy with a good service history from a very strong indie ... than from an OPC. The extended warranty is just an insurance policy and subject to the car ... it may well be that the cost of this when added to the savings available from the indies' at service should more than cover the cost of any breakage repairs (also at indie prices and with the option to source non-Porsche good quality alternative components) As one example that has become topical ... look at the comparative cost of an OPC vs Indie battery replacement ...

DJMC said: Go RPM. Did my 8yr service any they really care. My last OPC service was a farce. Numpties. My 981 Cayman is 11yrs old, 70k miles, and I went indy at 6yrs. They're "bullet proof" according to Chris at GCR. The dynamic engine mounts aren’t bullet proof. Seems they aren’t even bump proof. The steering rack on mine gave up at 14k miles. Helpfully out of warranty. No help from Porsche. I’m not alone suffering that failure either.

This was my take as well with my old 987.2 and 981 and I used a very well regarded specialist who was as fastidious as I am. This gave me far more confidence in the service state of the car than using an OPC, especially having heard many stories of low standards there (no proof though), and having a good personal relationship with a reputable indie who knew the car inside out, was for me, far more preferable. Although I stuck to the 2 year service interval, I would book the car in for the interim years for an extended inspection (~2 hours labour time and cost) to make sure everything was on track and nothing needed doing. I totally understand everyone's different and that sometimes an extended warranty will more than pay for itself though. It's just down to the appetite for what the perceived risks are.

No extended warranty product available on that. I like Porsche cars but none of mine have been trouble free. Not the 2 month old 987S that needed a new gearbox. Not my 993 which needed its arse wiping regularly. The rack issue was not uncommon in early 981 and 991. Same part.

Go RPM. Did my 8yr service and they really care. My last OPC service was a farce. Numpties. My 981 Cayman is 11yrs old, 70k miles, and I went indy at 6yrs. They're "bullet proof" according to Chris at GCR. Edited by DJMC on Thursday 3rd April 21:39
