Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Ill probably be bringing it in for an oil change soon but would like to have some ideas what might be going on.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 1999 911 with 90k miles. Took it out of storage a couple weeks ago and noticed yesterday that theres a slight tick coming from the drivers side that increased frequency when giving gas. Cant hear unless the door is open. Noticed it last night after I had driven about 20 minutes and noticed it this morning starting cold. Ill try to post a video but not sure if Ill be able to. How worried should I be? Ill probably be bringing it in for an oil change soon but would like to have some ideas what might be going on.

POST 2Original post

It may just be a bad clamp or a exhaust gasket. or crack in a muffler..

POST 5Original post

Lots of anecdotal evidence out there that 99s tend to tick. 🤷

POST 6Original post

I hear two distinctly different noises, the higher pitched one sounds like an exhaust leak or loose spark plug ( and looks like some visual evidence of an exhaust leak at #3 header pipe?).. the deeper tick sounds like the normal "ferrostan" noise. Ferrostan is a hard iron piston coating, it is harder and noisier but more durable then the later ferroprint piston coating that is softer and quieter but less durable.. Nothing to panic or worry about but the louder high pitched tick needs to be fixed, not just to sound better but an exhaust leak will effect the 02 sensor readings and the fuel trims. It should be fairly inexpensive to find/fix..

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
