In any case, I have now fitted ALL the threads with Helicoil inserts and this makes a much more stable impression.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey all, I have decided to replace the bolts mounting the brake caliper with studs after stripping one of the threads on the aluminium upright. Most of the kits (tarett, giro disc) are a bit hard to get in Europe... so I've been thinking about getting some high tensile studs with the right size instead. Has anyone done this? Is there a reason why I shouldn't do it and go for the more expensive premade kits? One option are those sparco studs:

POST 2Original post

How will the nut fit on the outside of the caliper?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I would imagine that a regular ARP 12-point nut should fit. Just like all the aftermarket kits do it.

POST 4Original post

I'd double check the diameter of the nut flange would fit in the counter bore:

POST 5Original post

I idiot managed to ruin almost half of the threaded holes in my wheel hubs because I set the torque wrench 100 Newton meters too high. My apologies: it was a long day and I didn't have my glasses on. In any case, I have now fitted ALL the threads with Helicoil inserts and this makes a much more stable impression.

POST 6Original post

...what a nightmare and we've all had those moments when you suddenly realise that you have f'd up...the sick to the stomach feeling ...and then you sort it and it's OK...

POST 7Original post

Wow 100 Nm too high, that must have been a big torque wrench!

it was... and trust me... i don´t felt that dumb for a looooooong time... While i´m tighten i i thoght "Oh, that was a lot of torque in that screw"... and i knew, that there was some problems with the alloy threats in the hub. So after the 4th get around, some tiny voice inside my head said "Dude, are you sure everythings fine here?" But Helicoil save my life... and my Hubs...and my money...
