Hello
Porsche
friends. I have a question I don’t know if anyone can help me with. Thank you in advance!
I daily my
cayman
and been driving for 3 months now. Yesterday I drove it to work and back everything was fine. But at night when I drove it again I felt the clutch suddenly became softer when I start up. the car runs great, even better to be honest. smoother shifting and smooth throttle response, no weird noise or unknown vibration. Only the clutch is noticeably lighter. Is this sth that I need to worry about? I did my research and found out that most of owner mention that if the clutch went bad it would feel stiffer and hard to shift which does not sound like my situation . Please let me know what you think thanks!
I would suspect your clutch pressure plate is failing. Best to have it looked at before you get stranded.
My
987.2
clutch wore out last summer and the only symptom I had was an occasional bit of slip with hard acceleration. When it was finally done I could put the car in 6th gear at a stop give it gas and it would slip. By the time I got an appt and dropped the car off the clutch was barely biting in 5th and 6th.
Thanks for helping friends. I did end up taking it to a high rating
Porsche
Indy shop and they told me after check and test drive the car the clutch works good and nothing is wrong with it. I drove it a couple of days and everything works good except for the clutch being lighter than before bothers me so that makes me wonder if it is because the previous owner drive it occasionally and I use it as daily so that effects the clutch response over time. is this normal?
Never heard of a clutch just getting lighter for no apparent reason, and no changes to equipment but stranger things have happened, there’s always a first time. Maybe wild speculation, but I’m wondering if it could have anything to do with the clutch master or slave cylinder. You indicate the previous owner didn’t drive it much, and maybe the fluid was not circulating properly and your more frequent driving has somewhat corrected that. FWIW, since your Indie mechanic checked it out and found no problems, I would take it back to him and have him do a brake fluid flush, including the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder. You’re probably due anyway, and it can’t hurt.
Another pure WAG as I've never heard of this happening is if the over center spring had stuck in the pedal up position and came unstuck. This spring assists in depressing the clutch.
Simple question, did you change your seat position?
Maybe leg day at the gym is paying off?
The manual shift and cable in the year you have may be from ordinary wear and pressure plate needs to be replaced (spring loaded) or spring failed. Also these years were subject to a redesign of the clutch cable as would make sharp bend into transmission and would stretch or break. It was completely redesigned as a retrofit module. I had replaced mine x2 before redesign and x1 after. Also had 150,000+ miles.
You will get stranded. Need to fix.
Unlikely but check your brake fluid reservoir / level....also I would first flush the clutch fluid and see if that helps before moving onto more extensive / expensive items.
