I’ve checked all the fuses, there doesn’t seem to be a specific one for the fan, but have checked them all.

Suggestion · Original poster

You can reach the fan via the frunk if you remove the plastic cowling and take out the cabin air filter, he fan is visible and if you use a screw driver you can indeed spin from there.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

ECP do a Valeo part (I paid about £80) and a cheaper alternative, I initially bought their cheaper pattern part but it rotated the wrong way and didn't work!!!

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, throwing this out to the collective. I have a 1999 and the heater fan has stopped working, it still has how air coming out of the vents but the fan doesn’t work at any speed. Also, when you switch aircon on you normally have an increase revs, that doesn’t happen now leading me to believe that this has also stopped working. I’ve checked all the fuses, there doesn’t seem to be a specific one for the fan, but have checked them all. Looking at the forum posts, which aren’t much help. I’ve tried physically flicking the fan from the frunk to make sure it’s not stuck, it moves freely. It’s now down to resistor packs and relays but wondered if anyone else had any ideas?

POST 2Original post

Just because the fan spins doesn't mean it isn't blown/broken... Although you appear to be referring to the HVAC fan..? which is accessible via the passenger footwell, not the frunk(?)

POST 3Original post

You need to check the relays in the footwell. One of the big blue ones controls the supply to the heater fan and is probably your problem. I don't remember which one I'm afraid, but you can swap them around to test the theory. The other 4 control the radiator fans - one each for High/Low for each side.

POST 4Original post

It's the relay. It controls both the aircon and the heater fan. Pull it out and push it back in and it'll probably solve the issue. No.1 in the image:

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Fantastic, will give that a go

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Did what you suggested and also tried swapping relays over, still no blower, any other suggestions?

POST 8Original post

It's deffo not the fan at fault if the aircon system is also not operating. Something in the power supply to them. Jury's still not out on the relay, could be the socket that's a bit manky.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I’ll try spraying the connectors with wd40

POST 10Original post

If not making proper contact the pins get hot and start to melt the plastic socket (see photo). Plastic then gets on the terminals and prevents making a decent contact.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

All contacts look like new, I have sprayed with a contact cleaner just in case and wiggle in and out many times, no life at all! Anywhere else I can check?

POST 12Original post

I think the fuse is D6 if you want to double check that.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yup, checked and double checked, I suppose I could swap out with another just in case, I’ll do that in the morning

POST 14Original post

If it is the fan, don't buy a replacement from Porsche, it's a standard VAG part and much cheaper from the usual Auto suppliers, I got mine from Eurocarparts. ECP do a Valeo part (I paid about £80) and a cheaper alternative, I initially bought their cheaper pattern part but it rotated the wrong way and didn't work!!!

POST 15Original post

Won't be the fan if the aircon compressor is also not kicking in.
