Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suspected cause
No, can happen anytime outwith 'sleep mode' - however now that you mention it, the problem is almost as if the alarm unit

Suggestion
My alarm unit occasionally refuses to repond to the remote ( despite changing the battery), but after carrying out this procedure all works again OK.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2001 996 cabrio. Last night the key fob activated "button" stopped locking the car. There has been no forced entry and the car was fine ealier during the day. The fob flashes when pressed, but the only way to lock and unlock car is with key in door, key has to inserted into ignition immediatly to stop alarm sounding. Any ideas have read Richard Hamiltons FAQ. but I do not have to revert to emergency procedure & therefore wonder is there something else that might be checked. Any clues/tips would be appreciated. thanks, JJ.
Try this:
Lock the car with the key & wait a minute for the alarm unit to 'settle'
Unlock the car with the key and
immediately
press the button on the remote
(this should disarm the alarm and dispense with the need to inset the key in the ignition)
Now try using the remote for the complete operation.

Good luck
'Concept', are you sure that your remote is not working purely because you've not used the car for 5 days?.
If it's less than 5 days and this works that's good news and I need to try it with my key which stopped working for no apparent reason.
Good point. No, can happen anytime outwith 'sleep mode' - however now that you mention it, the problem is almost as if the alarm unit
has
(prematurely) gone into sleep mode - because the recovery procedure is the same. I.E the remote will never work again until the key is used to unlock.
Thanks for your comments, interestly did buy replacement battery for key fob but to know avail, but have reverted to spare key with new battery and all seems well for now??? Do the "fobs" pack in??? its a1st on all the cars I've owned to date. Cheers, Jeremy
Still seem to have an intermitent problem takes a few presses with spare fob to lock doors and arm alarm, will moniter over xmas. Has only happen once so far.
