Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

Best way is to submerge lifters in hot clean oil & use a pushrod to compress the lifter, it's easy to see which are reusable & those that should be replaced.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I need advise on a 2001 996 70K. I get a lifter noise (bank 4-6) when starting for 10 seconds. This only happens when the car is cold and has set for at least two days. I have never herd the noise when warm or only sat for one day. If I pull the lifters when rebuilding how can you determine which lifter it is. Can you dissemble the lifter and clean? Can you prime and check to see if it retains priming. Suggestions please
