987.1 horn sound
I have a 2007 Boxster base that I’ve had about 4 years. The horn has always been tinny and just….pathetic. I thought that was normal until I came across a discussion in which it was mentioned there’s a low and high horn. However, I can’t seem to find anyone playing a sound of the horn even those videos people have made of just the 987 sounds for some reason there’s no car honk. Here’s a video of my horn sound. Is this the normal sound or is it missing the low tone horn?
On the 987, the low tone horn failure is a common occurrence. This horn is located on the right bottom side of the front bumper. There is a small square cutout in the bumper bottom and the low-tone horn is recessed in that location. Try to gently feel for the horn and have someone honk it for you. It is possible to replace the horn without fully removing the bumper. I replaced the horn several years ago and don't fully recall the process, but you may have to remove a few fasteners to gain access between the bumper and front end structure. It helps to have smaller hands for access. The horn is mounted to a bracket that you may need to reuse... I think that you just need to remove the horn from the bracket, without removing the bracket?
Horn part number (may be other applicable P/N): 99763520504
For reference (my previous purchase, there are other suppliers):

Just as a comparison, my horn does not sound anything like that. Definitely something is amiss.
thank you for the links and info! I’m hoping I can get it w/o having to take off the bumper. So if the low tone is dead there will be no sound with a squeeze?
I should of clued in to that sooner but it didn’t seem important until I was in Houston over Christmas and thought I would be run over because no one could hear me honk!
FWIW -
Porsche
cleverly made it impossible to replace the horns (do both, I used aftermarket) without bumper removal.

Targa horns which sound sweet unless you do a long blast.
