On a similar subject not worth starting another thread, I’m going to look at getting my roll bars front and rear stripped and powder coated so will replace the bushes.

Apart from Powerflex and Polybush has anyone found a way of replacing the bushes only with something the same as the factory ones (without replacing the entire thing)

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I need to replace the rear upper control arms on my 996 C2. Apart from Powerflex and Polybush has anyone found a way of replacing the bushes only with something the same as the factory ones (without replacing the entire thing) I found these from Prekom which look more like rubber but has anyone tried this. The Powerflex poly bushes are supposed to be quite harsh which I'm not keen on. These are the arms I'm talking about (dog bones)

POST 2Original post

My mate has just replaced his with Spider Performance ones which were £197 on offer for all 4. This was for the whole arms, don't know how much cheaper it would be for OE quality bushes?

POST 3Original post

have a look at https://www.design911.co.uk/porsche/911-1984-89/suspension-shocks-and-parts/?source=911uk

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was thinking more of "recycling" the old arms what with them being Aluminium and will never corrode badly enough to be of no use. I got a reply from Prekom and they're like 60Euros each plus postage so not really viable. Such a waste though when it's just the rubber bit in the end that needs changing. I'll take a look at those Spider Performance ones..thanks.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

These do them for £36 so £72 to do one arm. Anyone any history with CET ? Meyle seem to have gone down hill from what I've read.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You'd have thought those bushes could be bought for like £12 each somewhere. They're not really very complicated.

POST 7Original post

I went through the same thought process recently and ended up with the CTE arms from Design 911. Powerflex has become surprisingly expensive, and as I learnt recently can wear in this type of application (where the OE specified a flexural bush and the poly has a sliding contact). The closest I could find to re-bushing the arms was to purchase them from Elephant Racing in the states, but the cost ends up being no better than buying the whole casting and you have the downside of faff. Some more info on the downsides of poly bushes here: https://www.elephantracing.com/tech-topics/polyurethane-bushings-and-friction/

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That's an interesting read. I think I'll go with the CTE's from D911 £270.72 inc vat and free delivery. (for 4) Mine are definitely the original ones form 1998 so 27yrs old!

POST 9Original post

Are they worn? CG advised me that the only suspension parts that probably wouldn't need changing were these upper arms and they pronounced them fine when they checked them.

POST 10Original post

They do wear / deteriate, this is what my mates originals looked like!

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Mine are just like that too

POST 13Original post

I thought I wouldn't need to change my dog bones at 130,000, but the rear camber was impossible to get to spec until I replaced them. They might wear slowly compared to the other arms, but they do wear.

POST 14Original post

On a similar subject not worth starting another thread, I’m going to look at getting my roll bars front and rear stripped and powder coated so will replace the bushes. What size should these be? Been looking at specs and there’s a multitude of different sizes, just after some regular bushes standard fit

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Mine has those purple ones ( I think they're Powerflex). Seem to do the job and as far as I know there's only one size if it's the factory roll bar , the bushes fit into an aluminium housing with a cap piece.
