Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I think it was the AC cars that had them deflated to fit in the frunk.
Leading evidence: 'ac cars' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'ac cars' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair /inflation kit' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
I actually want to get rid of mine to make a bit more room for an electric steering pump, anyone know of a good repair/inflation kit?

As far as I recall, OPC's only sell a full replacement spare wheel, & won't replace just a tyre, but double check for yourself.

Anyone else had to / decided to replace their spare or thoughts on the matter?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The 105/95 R17 space saver with my car is now 22 years old so whilst its been kept in darkness, the rubber is probably well past its best and not to be relied upon.
It would seem the above size is no longer manufactured and a 115/95 looks too tall. Checking out will they fit a 125/80R17 gives near identical rolling radius to normal tyres.
Anyone else had to / decided to replace their spare or thoughts on the matter? For the sake of £100 ish I’m changing it!
Have you inspected yours? If it looks fine it probably will be. Those space sacers arent to be relied upon for normal driving when new, hence the low speed restriction. Theyre there as an emergency tool.
I've given up on a 25 year old rubber space saver tyre. Rubber will be brittle by now anyway. I now have tyre sealant in the case of a puncture. Seems much less hassle!
They fold inwards to save space and look like this when stored:
I've used mine about 5 times and it's got me out some right pickles. Still looks like new after 25 years.
Mine fits pumped up in my 996 C2 - nothing included in the OEM kit to re-inflate it. I think it was the AC cars that had them deflated to fit in the frunk.
Its holding pressure - proper work out inflating to 60psi with the bike track pump!
996 C2's have a different space saver spare which is inflated. So it doesn't require the compressor like the collapsible spares from the C4/c4s.
See the example pictured here:

As others have said, these tend to be stored in cool/dark conditions so the rubber may have aged better than something exposed to the elements & may still be fit for purpose.
WRT replacement tyres for the C2 version, when I last looked camskill had some in different sizes, but not sure if they'd fit. It might be worth a punt, if you can get a good price.

Alternatively

offer an 18" spare, but I'm not sure if that would fit in the frunk.
