Took my
cayman
into a German car 'specialist' this week for a major service and to look at the drivers door glass which had stopped working.
Turns out it needs a load of other stuff too, new brake discs as they are corroded (plus pads of course), parking brake adjustment, fogged up front headlamp, air filter clogged, a 'knocking' noise, slight coolant leak, slight oil leak from both cam covers, uneven tyre wear (it does need two tyres to be fair), wheel alignment issue, auxiliary drive belt needs replacement, new spark plus required, transmission service due at 100,000 miles, a/c needs a service, wiper blades....all this for the paltry sum of £3532 inc VAT. That's not including the major service & new window regulator which is £1178!
Needless to say I'll get the work done elsewhere, much cheaper, but given that it was only MOT'd in October I was surprised at some of these 'observations'! Ah

Hey
@CaymanKev
, yikes, that is quite the laundry list of repairs from the specialist, especially with a recent MOT! Out of that whole £3500+ quote, which items seemed the most questionable to you? Adding a bit more detail might help others here weigh in on what's critical versus what could be an upsell.
There are a few 'upsells' I have identified, I'll just get my mate to do them for a 3rd of the price. As for
spark plugs
& a/c service they've both been done in the last 10k, so they can wait.
Garage just called, wrong part turned up (passenger side regulator not drivers side), awaiting delivery of correct one which they've promised will be today (unlikely) 🤷♂️
Collected car today, all good. Nice little bimble along the country lanes on way back, such a nice drive. Wiper blades have turned up whilst out, so I'll fit them later.
I'll get two new tyres
next
month after payday, then possibly front disks & pads the month after, although I think I need a 2nd opinion on the condition of them as I'm convinced this would have failed the MOT in October, I've literally only done 200 miles since!
Also a little bit of late night research saved me £££. Read
Porsche
dealers in USA charge $450 to resync the key fob, took about a minute.
Usually discs are replaced based on the remaining thickness, not corrosion. When not driven frequently, especially after being exposed to rain, they may have a lot of surface rust. That is just cosmetic and will be worn off by a little spirited driving and braking.
