Has anyone successfully installed the 997 top mounts on a 996?
I've got some fettling to do in the New Year, this job being one of them. Fairly sure there's a crazy price difference between the 2 mounts and that they're near identical?
Considering renewing the front shocks while I'm on too.
Any pointers much appreciated. :?:
C2 top mounts are a direct swap between 996 and 997 with the 996 part number no superseded with the 997 one.
C4.C4S, Turbo top mounts are also fit according to multiple forums if you google it, as a few people also mention on those threads Porsche will probably officially supersede the part at some point for the 997 one once their warehouse stock of the 996 part runs low. Kind of Like how I got a set of 997 engine mounts in my 996 now, cost half as much and look almost identical to the originals, just essentially a revised part.
To be honest beyond looks and a few refinements here and there, there's really not a whole lot different between a 996 and a 997 when it comes to changeability of makes the car drive the way it does, suspension parts, mounts and steering components are for the most part interchangeable.
Currently I'm considering a 997 steering rack in my 996 because it's the same shape and size just revised to have variable gearing to cut down on bump steer.

I asked the same question in one of my FB groups, several responses to the positive, without any issues it would seem, so i'll be ordering some 997 parts shortly. :thumb:
Does anyone know if a 997 / 987 ( 2007) steering rack fits on a 996?
I managed to strip my 996 rack fitting new pipes ( arrgh) and the 997 racks seem in a much better condition.
Anyone done this? TIA
