Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Mechanic getting stuck in: big coolant hoses coming from the water pump were perishing. Will see what else gets spotted while the engine's out...

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

And there's more.... will be good for another 23 years after this No real horrors found - just some long needed TLC to keep the old girl going strong

POST 4Original post

That's a ballsy amount of work - fair play to you - I always think engine out is like the biggest thing known to man but for a 911 its all part and parcel of long term ownership I guess. While the engine is out are you detailing and lanoseal all the bay?

POST 5Original post

Now that looks expensive. Good luck with the refurb and hope it all goes smoothly

Hadn't considered Lanosealing - might speak to my man about it and see what he recommends: he's a no nonesense kinda guy - has seen many a car in his time (including his own 911)

POST 7Original post

Just had having my engine & gearbox dropped also to replace the leaking rusted fuel rails. Luckily I found a good condition set in California for £100 rather than paying Porsche UK £1020). Looks like I’ll be getting some minor oil leaks sorted as well as brake pipes, AOS, Y cable and some other bits ‘n’ bobs done whilst access is good. Engine getting a clean & some protective coating. Other work identified but that can wait until Spring and some warmer weather for me to sort.

POST 8Original post

Are you going to do something with the coolant pipes ie: welding/pinning/bonding them. ? Seems like a good idea while you're in there.

They do rust pretty bad those fuel rails. Cali ones will probably still be that shiny gold colour.

Ordered new factory joiners for the aluminium crossover pipes

POST 13Original post

I was thinking more of the problem that can occur where the OEM glue fails on the inserts and you loose all your coolant very quickly. It's a well known problem called "pinning" Welding (tig) or re-bonding the inserts. Here's a vid about it.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Have forwarded YouTube vid to mechanic - thanks
