- One more possible complication: a previous owner had installed a Sirius/XM receiver.

The good news is I now have a working system (love it) and they replaced the box free of charge

No sound, re-did all the connections, replaced MOST-module on PCCM with another one i had from a previous install, plugged the old CDR23 back in to double-check (worked flawless), got some sound at some point for 3 seconds followed by silence again.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

- I went to the submenu behind the VOLUME control in Settings to switch between CAN and AMP, and after disconnecting and reconnecting power, no change.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Yet another PCCM+ installation situation I need help/suggestions
I purchased the PCCM+ from my local dealer for my 2003 911 Targa (CDR 23 with Bose). After reading numerous forum posts and watching numerous YouTube videos, and since the dealer charges $1300 to install it, I decided to tackle the installation myself. After purchasing the correct frame, retainer bar, cubby and trim, the mechanical installation went quite smoothly. The wiring connections also seemed straightforward and consistent with the information I had gathered from the internet with one exception: I attached the fiber optic connector to the receptacle on the MOST box. I had not seen this cable mentioned in the videos I viewed, but it was logical connection.
After reconnecting the battery and starting the car, the PCCM+ powered up. I selected Tuner and found an FM station. I had sound for about three seconds, then it cut off. I checked the connections and all were tight. All of the functions of the unit worked, including CarPlay, but no sound. I then tried the following:
- I went to the submenu behind the VOLUME control in Settings to switch between CAN and AMP, and after disconnecting and reconnecting power, no change.
- I disconnected the fiber optic connector - no sound with either CAN or AMP setting
- I reconnected the fiber optic connector and installed the supplied fiber optic loop on the connector going to the amplifier in the frunk - no sound with either CAN or AMP setting
My questions:
- What is the correct setting for my configuration - CAN or AMP?
- What is the correct use of the fiber optic connection? Should the connection be made between the MOST box on the PCCM+ and the frunk amp, or should the loop be installed at the amp location?
- I saw mention of a dedicated ground wire on a video that was attached to a tab of their original head unit - he then crimped a new connector on this wire and attached it to a screw on the metal side frame of the PCCM+. I found no dedicated ground in my original installation - is this correct for my original configuration?
- I was having problems with the sound with my original CDR 23. About 25% of the time when starting the car, I would get no sound. It would usually return when turning the car off and restarting. I had read that this a common issue with this head unit, and one of the reasons for this upgrade. Could this be related to the issue I am having with the PCCM+? Note I have started the car numerous times in all of the wiring configurations I mentioned above.
- One more possible complication: a previous owner had installed a Sirius/XM receiver. I wasnt planning to use this, so I removed the head unit from the console after purchasing the car 4 years ago (besides, it was ugly - it was attached to the batwing trim piece). I left the wiring as is behind the dash/console. Is there a chance this is causing a problem?
Any suggestions and advice would be appreciated. I am ready to take it to an expert to diagnose. If I do, any recommendations whether I would be better off with the local Porsche dealer (who should have the official installation instructions) or an independent shop?
Sorry you're having install issues but it sounds to me like you did not follow the install directions too well. Suncoast Porsche I think has a downloadable PDF for directions. I think the easiest install is for those with Bose AND MOST fiberoptic system. It's all plug and play. There is a MOST box that is installed on the little shelve over the PCCM+ where you plug in the MOST cable and loop another one from the box to the radio. There is also another thread here that covers most of the install scenarios -

.
Thanks for the reply. I did use the Suncoast download along with information from forums and YouTube. Without a complete installation manual from Porsche, the correct configuration of connections is not completely obvious from these other sources - some of the info is contradictory. For my 2003 911, with CDR 23 and Bose, I configured it with the MOST box connected to the PCCM and the car fiber optic connector, setting the unit to CAN (not AMP). I did have the yellow connector attached, and have now disconnected it per some posts deep into the other Thread. Still no sound, but did notice the loss of functionality such as the unit turning on and off with the key no longer works.
I did see someone mentioned their MOST box being defective. Could this be my problem?
I am going to go back and disconnect all of the connections on the back of the PCCM and reconnect and see if that miraculously fixes the issue.
Additional advice is appreciated.
The good old unplug and plug back in might work. Someone also tried plugging in the MOST cable with the gray protector on so make sure that's not there
You definitely want the yellow plug plugged in. It only occupies part of the space but is needed. Without it I had random shut downs as well and the buttons did not light up at all.
Thanks for the input. The plug/unplug and battery disconnect/connect did not work. I removed the gray plug from the MOST connector during my initial installation - so that’s not a problem. As for the yellow connector, there appears to be conflicting information on it. I did have it connected prior to this morning - but unplugged per inputs in the other PCCM+ thread. Some said unplugging it solved their problems - but it does seem to affect the functionality of features in the unit. My biggest goal right now is to get some sound…..
I did convert from a single DIN to double DIN. I opted to buy a new support frame (plastic piece that holds the face of the unit) and retaining bar (metal frame that holds the back) rather than modifying the single DIN pieces. Also needed a new cubby and trim for the HVAC controls to enable the relocation of the HVAC to the lowest slot in the lower console and having a cubby above it. I have the part numbers if you need them.
Support frame: 996.552.231.12.01C
Retaining bar: 996.552.653.04
Console storage: 996.552.253.01.01C
A/C trim: 996.552.339.00.01C
Screws(2): PAF 008.933 A number of sources mention the need for these screws - I was able to reuse all of my existing ones, so ended up not needing them
All of these parts are available from a number of sources online.
Good luck with the install!
I have tried just about everything with no luck. I have an appointment with my local Porsche dealer in two weeks (soonest I can get in) hoping they have the documentation that will help troubleshoot - especially if I have a defective component.
That's odd that it is not working if the unit is just plug and play. You may check the facebook group for 996 turbo. They seem to have a lot of people that are pretty active
Any updates on this?
Im having the exact same issues with my 2004 986 S with BOSE and MOST (no CD-changer!) after converting from a CDR 23.
No sound, re-did all the connections, replaced MOST-module on PCCM with another one i had from a previous install, plugged the old CDR23 back in to double-check (worked flawless), got some sound at some point for 3 seconds followed by silence again.
Starting to think that the PCCM might be faulty Any suggestions on this?
I ended up taking my car to my local Porsche dealer (where I bought the unit), and they confirmed I had wired it correctly. They then checked the MOST box and found it was not putting out a consistent signal. They ordered a new one and once I installed it, the PCCM+ worked fine. The good news is I now have a working system (love it) and they replaced the box free of charge
, the bad news is they charged me 3 hours labor to troubleshoot (since I didn’t pay them to install it)

UPDATE:
Problem solved!
Turns out that neither of the PCCMs was faulty, nor was my installation! The early BOSE Amps (Part no. 996 645 333 02/ 996 645 333 03) have an older software that doesnt communicate with the PCCM+ Most-control unit.
There are two possible solutions to this problem:
Buy a new BOSE Amp at the dealer: 1.084,49
or...
Send the old BOSE-Amp to
AMP Performance
Klick me!
and have them update the software of the Amp for 196,35!
I did just that and everything works as it should now! :-) After contacting Mr. Gomille via e-Mail he reached out to me within 10 Minutes to discuss the issue. After explaining everything ive done so far to locate the problem he mentioned that he once had a similar case where the update of the software worked. We decided to go that route so i removed the Amp and sent it in. It took him about a week to get it done (I didnt bother since he informed me beforehand that theyre busy atm) and when I got it back today it worked from the moment it was plugged in!
Very happy with the outcome! Extremely satisfied customer here! :-)
Go check them out if you run into similar issues!
