Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, A well maintained 996TT that is no stranger to the track has come up. It saw a replacement engine at around 40k and then a replacement transmission but has been maintained well otherwise by a reputable indy. A fairly good price that reflects the history - is this a bad idea?

POST 2Original post

Not if it’s been well maintained These cars are made to be driven on a track Get a PPI for your piece of mind

POST 3Original post

I've worked on 996tt for 10 years. They are pretty bullet proof cars. One of my customers racked 200k on his TT 996. As looneybin said, get a PPI

POST 4Original post

I honestly prefer cars that have been tracked some... for the reason being that the track is harsh on cars and exposes weaknesses that have to be addressed for reliability, and become better than street cars in that respect. The GT1 block is indeed bulletproof, other than the coolant lines which Im sure that car has them pinned or welded if tracked. Go for it, and +1 on the PPI

POST 6Original post

i wouldn't be suspect...my car sees a good bit of the track and has only ever needed a clutch, brake pads/rotors, brake fluid, oil changes, and coolant expansion tank...all normal things (expansion tank is normal for a 20 year old car...old plastic). easy to run...great cars - get it!

POST 7Original post

If the maintenance records are all there, you will be fine. Things break - even on cars that sit in the garage most of the time. Prompt preventative maintenance, solid repairs and evidence of lots of love by the owner will provide all the peace of mind you need. PPI if you cannot do a thorough inspection yourself. I've had mine for years, it is now track only. Only breakdown was a popped defective collar turbo hose that had to be replaced. Rest has all been prophylactic, including $7K for motor drop to weld the coolant lines / clutch / accumulator / etc. Another bonus for a track car.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks everyone. Tons of maintenance history as the car got what it needed at it’s annual checkup. PPI came back clean aside from some cosmetic issues. Car drives very well aside from needing a minor alignment (slight pull to left but that could be road camber?) Will be moving forward with the car!
