Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi there Here are the results for my car from today. There doesn’t appear to be anything major? Or are there any items that are a pain to do, and likely to be expensive? I’m surprised about the suspension wear as the car drives well, is fairly quiet without knocks etc.. is it best to change whole components or just isolated bushes that are worn? Thanks

POST 2Original post

Doesn't sound too bad. I think water leaks and brakes (and brake lines) should be the priority, along with any MOT fail items. Add suspension to priority if it's an MOT fail, obviously. If it feels OK for now it can be done later. Leaking manifolds I wouldn't touch unless you absolutely have to. Corrosion on them is completely normal at this age and they're a pain to get out as often the bolts need to be drilled out.

POST 3Original post

Rear coffin arms will be a pain and you'll have to cut the eccentric bolts out. Manifold bolts also a crap job with plenty of labour. Other stuff is general tidying up. Shocks seem ok which is a bonus.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks gents. It’s only the inner bush on each coffin arm that’s split, is that an MOT failure?

POST 5Original post

No, but your handling and tyre wear might be. Its new coffin arms on all 4 corners. Front will be easy DIY, rears may need the bolts chopping out.

POST 7Original post

Call me cynical but la rose/Spyder performance is probably best known for their aftermarket suspension arms, and they report yours need changing

Interesting, I did not know that

POST 9Original post

I found rigid brake pipes weren’t mega expensive from Porsche and have bends in all the right places.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks. Are there any Porsche centres online for spares? I have Mercedes dealers that I use for parts that are on eBay for instance.

POST 11Original post

No, official Porsche centres don't, but you can phone or email them for prices and orders. There are some online places that do genuine Porsche parts, but as a rule are more expensive.

POST 12Original post

I am currently refreshing all my suspension front to rear and have been using https://frazerpart.com/ and https://www.spyderperformance.com/ . Have you registered your 996 on the classic Porsche register through your local OPC for free? If so, you will get 10% off on all parts bought and some will even give you 15% of parts if you ask nicely! I have found most Porsche parts are cheaper to buy with this discount than sites like Design 911 for example. You do need to ring or email the OPC parts department to order though.

POST 13Original post

I bought a couple of rear brake shields from a different OPC than the one i used to use, no discount offered (i didn’t ask), price was only £1 cheaper than d911 delivered! So definitely ask for discounts from OPC. (The one i used to use seemed to struggle with the price on the invoice being the same as the quote on the phone, i just lost confidence with them)

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Can anyone recommend an OPC that will do mail order on parts via email? Thanks

POST 15Original post

Think they all do. Just email the parts department of your preferred OPC and ask. My local at Preston work Saturday mornings and responded in 20 minutes when I mailed them one Saturday.
