Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I mean the aux belt and water pump would be something i'd have a look at but just check, don't replace unless they look bad.
Leading evidence: 'Check don't' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check don't' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Air con although not important for the actual car to move will make such a trip in those temps more bearable so check the joints and condensors for leaks and sort if required.

Is there anything I should be pro actively replacing (belts, chains, electronics, anything etc..)?

The rubber coolant hoses are getting on to, big and expensive job to change all of them though!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all, I’ve owned my 2002 3.6 Carrera 6MT PSE M030 85k miles with full OPC Service History for nearly 20 years. It was a daily way back when but for the past 8 years or so it’s been parked up on flat stoppers, connected to a CTek and driven to the OPC for its annual service. The tyres, discs, pads, suspension, ECU are all new and pretty much anything the OPC mentions I do. Last year it went in for its’ annual service and it suffered from electrical issues on the way home which they fixed.
So, I am stopping long distance motorcycle touring and would like to use my 996 instead. The car is in the Middle East, which means having to drive through empty long stretches of desert roads of about 800 miles until you reach the nice UAE and Oman coastal roads. I really don’t want to be stuck on the side of the road in those places.
Is there anything I should be pro actively replacing (belts, chains, electronics, anything etc..)? I’m selling my GSA1250 so I can spend up to £2.5k equivalent at the OPC.
Any guidance would be very much appreciated.
It sounds well maintained but for that journey in those climates you want particular attention to the cooling system. I mean the aux belt and water pump would be something i'd have a look at but just check, don't replace unless they look bad. Rads are good as long as they're not rotten and leaking , they're also easy to check. Air con although not important for the actual car to move will make such a trip in those temps more bearable so check the joints and condensors for leaks and sort if required.
Then go and enjoy
I was going to say cooling system, waterpump particually, especially if it's still on the original. The rubber coolant hoses are getting on to, big and expensive job to change all of them though!
generic, fuses are fuses
also worth getting a compart car battery power bank and two torch, one compact and one larger capacity
assuming you have all of the items need for overseas travel, window breaker / seat belt cutter
Coolant reservoir if original and gone yellow, they're known to age and crack even in the UK climate! Also coolant reservoir cap.
Not certain it applied to your engine but there is a plastic connector with a coolant hose on, which goes brittle, it's just to the right of the alternator. Hopefully some one else can advise if this could be an issue for your engine.
As others have said check replace coolant hose's and some of the coolant hose's are joined together with plastic fittings which due to age are brittle and break
easy, see pic.
This is one I broke on my 3.4 996 by moving the pipe out the way, the plastic fitting broke very easily lol.
