Hello, I'm looking to buy a 2nd set of wheels to be used in the winter for my 07
Cayman S
. Fronts are 235/35/19 and rears are 265/35/19.
I've found some wheels off a 13
Cayman S
. Fronts are 235/40/19 and rears are 265/40/19.
Will these rims work on my 987?
They will work, I had a set of 19’s on my
987.2
, however the tire size is larger so your gearing and speedo will be off. The larger diameter tire will make your car slower.
If I recall I had to add a 7mm spacer to the front wheels to clear the strut tower.
I’d be more worried about offset than tire diameter.
I’m almost certain you can swap wheels between the two cars.
The 40 will be slightly taller.
A great website is willtheyfit.com
If you can get the offset you will then have the definitive answer.
Thank you for both replies. I'll get the rims, and then put the original size tires on these newly acquired rims.
Yes, the rims will fit just fine, with the proper sized tires mounted.
FYI tires will work too. But they will rub if you take corners fast even on stock height (without the sport package). Mine were okay , but i ran them on an intro track day and they rubbed. So if its just around town/normal driving, you should be good. I put 2013 rims/tires on my 2009
Just to clarify, when you say the larger diameter tire will ’make your car slower’, do you mean to say that the car will actually be traveling slower than what the speedometer reads?
Got that. But as far as the geometry of it, changing the diameter of a circle will change the circumference, hence changing the distance traveled per revolution. So, if my junior high math is correct, the car will be traveling faster than the speedometer indicates. Something to be aware of when passing a cop with a radar gun. I just changed the tires on my SUV to a slightly different equivalent size and wanted to see the effect it had on the speedo readout, so I set cruise control for a desired speed then check it against one of my navigation apps. And to further verify that, I check it against several nav apps, like
Waze
, Google Maps, etc. to be sure.
Correct, it will do just what you said, and it will appear on your speedo that you are traveling slower than you actually are.
