Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

But, I believe I can simply review the position of the intake cam mark on bank 1 before setting the bank 2 cam assembly back in place.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Good evening Seeking some feedback that would lead me to a successful fix on my 01 C2 911 I had a Variocam issue on bank 2 required me to drop the motor and remove the unit. A mistake I made was to remove the cams before verifying I had bank 2 on cyl 4 TDC. But, I believe I can simply review the position of the intake cam mark on bank 1 before setting the bank 2 cam assembly back in place. In the image, the bank 1 notch is facing the cam cover. This is the position for TDC cyl 1, correct? If so, if I rotate the motor 360 deg, bank 1 intake cam will rotate 180 deg and be facing the crank side. At which point, I will be at cyl 4 TDC for bank 2 timing. If that is the case, then great! I can proceed with the final repair. If not, please correct my plan. Thanks to all for your help and knowledge

POST 2Original post

You need to get the cam alignment tool and cam holding tool before proceeding.

Yessir, I have all of that. I have completed a project on the engine before but that was with both banks open and broke down. This setup, I am trying to leave bank 1 alone if possible. Thanks for responding

POST 4Original post

Get the crank shaft at TDC overlap bank 1, pin the crank. Insert the alignment tool at the rear of the head after removing the two plastic covers. When that fits, remove the tool from the cams and the pin from the crank. Turn it 360 degree, pin it again. Then install the two cam shafts on bank 2 making sure the alignment tool fits into the slots on the two cams, at the front edge of the head. There is little room there. You also have to install the hold down tool over the cams. I assume you have a floppy chain on bank 2. You need to watch that chain so it does not get hung up while rotating the engine. Then do what you have to do.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Yelcab. Yes, I have floppy chain. Ill be able to make sure it stays true. Thanks for your input.
