I know this has been attempted before over the years but I am trying to put together a definitive list of the 28 RHD C16 Clubsports and would appreciate any assistance you can give. To date we have 18 cars on the database in various degrees of completeness. For some we have all the information and for others just an old sales advert , for example, that provides enough detail to identify it but not the full details. So if you own one of the cars or know someone who does then we would love to hear from you . We own one of the 28 which was put into storage by the previous owner for a number of years and I am now conducting a thorough overhaul of all systems and using the car throughout the summer - back on the road where it belongs! These are such rare and important cars that one day the wider Porsche fraternity will wake up to the fact that they need to be documented and take their place in Porsche history. I have owned a number of road and track cars over the last 45years but the Clubsport is the best car I have ever owned. A Joy to drive! Looking forward to seeing how many are still out there.

I know the location of a Speed Yellow (Non-Manthey modified) C16 ClubSport here in Cheshire. We were always lead to believe there were only 3 x SY cars, and I believe the other two are K410 (?) modified. I believe one of the other SY cars changed hands recently and could possibly be in Ireland now?

I have been working on the register list and of the 19 individual cars identified so far there are 2 that I need more details about. 1. We know there are at least 2 Zanzibar cars and I think one was owned by a guy called Steve Bassington at one time but I have been unable to track this car down and it has also been suggested that a Zanzibar car was written off. Any info would be welcomed . 2. I also have a black car that was, or is still, owned by Damian Markland reg D17MOM from Preston . This is a GT3 but as yet I have been unable to establish if it’s a CS. Any help on the above or any other cars would be welcomed . Happy driving - we were out and about with ours in the sun yesterday!

Happy driving - we were out and about with ours in the sun yesterday! Steve Bassington's Zanzibar car was a Manthey K400 equipped example with Cargraphic wheels. He's not posted on the Porsche forum for many years now. He no longer resides in the UK, having first moved to South Africa and then to Canada. He may still own the car, I seem to recall he said it was stored at his Dad's house in the UK. This is it pictured at my place in 2007 : And images of his car (I think) at JZ Machtech having the Manthey K400 exhaust fitted :

POST 44Original post

ponters said: I have been working on the infamous number 28 for the number of these UK CS cars but does anyone know where this came from and if its an estimate or factual? It's factual. As is the number of 996 GT2 Clubsports frequently quoted on the interwebz. They're rare cars, though the differences between a Clubsport and a "Comfort" spec car aren't massive in the big scheme of things, but ultimately, in the Porsche world, rarity often matters and means more collectable.

But the 996.1 GT3 Clubsport was the RS of this version ? It even came with the front section of the roll cage as standard (a dealer fit item). The 996.2 GT3RS was then an even more different car from the 996.2 GT3 ... but still ...

The black Manthey modded car (yes, it has a CS cage fitted, but it's not a factory supplied CS car) : First Zanzibar car : And the same after a sub-zero outing with huge amounts of salt/grit on the roads (I know, the shame of it, driving the car when the sun's not out and the temps above 25 degrees C, disgraceful) Second Zanzibar car (yes, it too has a CS cage fitted, but it's not a factory supplied CS car) : The Speed yellow car : And as Jeremy said, his car had the Gurney flap too, so I'm pretty sure they all had them irrespective of whether they were factory CS or Comfort spec.

New lead! Can anyone help. I was chatting to Brian and Steve Winstone at the weekend and Brian said that he bought a Speed Yellow 996.1 clubsport new from Hatfield Porsche and that the car was part ex’d when he swapped it for the 996.2 . The car only had the rear cage fitted , never the front. He believes the car is still in the hands of the second owners who keeps it in immaculate condition and occasionally shows it at events . Brian and Steve were invited guests of Porsche back in the day when the silver press car was used to give track laps at Donnington Park driven by 3 times Le Mans winner Allan NcNish. Was anyone else there and are there any photos knocking around of the day ? If anyone can help track this additional Speed Yellow car down that would be very helpful. Or perhaps someone has a contact at Porsche Hatield?

POST 66Original post

Not sure if this will help, but I was re-reading an old EVO, Issue 36, October 2001 and there was a black 996.1 CS with the registration V865KDM in it. The article was called "911 Heaven" and done to coincide with the release of the 996 GT2. The contenders were: '73 2.7 RS "Lightweight" '74 3.0 RS '85 959 '87 Clubsport '91 964 RS '94 993 GT "Comfort" '95 993 RS '99 996 GT3 CS '00 996 Turbo '01 GT2 CS A bit of recency bias going on there.

ChrisW. said: Could you list what those are ? I was aware of (I believe) the door mirror and boot / bonnet locks of the second batch cars that were a half way to the 996.2 GT3 ?? Hi Chris , these are just parts supply differences rather than major design changes . My car is a late first batch and the yellow a very early 1st batch car, so I am not talking about 2nd batch cars here. But the roll cage on the early car has ‘keeper’ loops for the harness belts and there are some minor differences to brackets in the engine bay. Edited by ponters on Monday 18th August 17:44

PRO5T said: I wouldn’t have said those second batch cars were halfway to a 996.2 GT3 I think the inference is the boot and engine cover releases fitted to them were the 996.2 electronic items, and the roof lining was Alcantara. All were 996.2 "upgrades".
